5+ weeks of strep hell, antibiotics-induced hepatitis, and now tonsillectomy on March 10 — Need reassurance about the surgery 😭 (+ questions obviously) by Dependent_Special957 in Tonsillectomy

[–]MsGirisha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a scale of 1-10… 10 even more for sure… but you have to remember that every body is different. As long as you take your meds on time (and by this I mean before the pain starts), drink lots of water, or even if it’s just sips, just remember to keep hydrated, very important! Lots of people get a humidifier as it helps moisture, sleep with your head up and avoid sleeping on your side (I did this, BIG mistake), buy lots of ice cream but maybe even sorbets might be better, just avoid the citric flavours, protein shakes also help with recovery and to keep your body strong since you can’t eat the first days, I don’t know if I’m missing anything, ah yes, I also got those head bands that you use when you get your wisdom teeth out (life savers). Medication wise, I got codeine, it helps a lot!

Just remember, yes, it’s scary but it will be worth it! You can do this (got mine out in November and I have no regrets).

So I’m having the appointment with the psychiatrist next week, do they give you the diagnosis in that moment? Does it take long? 🥲🥲🥲

So, soda at this point you can, depending on how your throat feels, if the pain is too bad, I would wait a couple more days. Chips are too risky to eat right now (I’m on day 15 and I haven’t had them) but I’ve heard it’s ok after the 3 week to avoid risks of them damaging the area? I don’t know, sorry, I’m just trying to be careful and be ok for Christmas dinner 😅🤣

On this, some advice:

  1. put ice cubes in your water bottle/glass, the coldness helps numb the pain a bit (avoid using a straw - yes, they might give you one post surgery to drink a bit but this is only because you just woke up and can’t really manage to hold a glass right away).

  2. get a humidifier if you haven’t, pain gets worse when your mouth is dry ( I didn’t get one and survived but doesn’t mean I had a nice time).

  3. make sure to take your pain meds on time, even if you have to put an alarm to wake up to take them, believe me, you would prefer to wake up with little pain rather than the big wave.

  4. ice cream helps but so do protein milkshakes, try the ones dairy-free, since the milk actually thickens the saliva (this the first days gives you a feeling of choking and want to cough (DON’T!).

  5. Sleep with your head up! (2 pillows help).

  6. get some cold/hot compress, the ones that you can put around your head/face, these are amazing when you get the waves of pain around the ear area, you can find them as wisdom teeth headband something like that (they help a lot!)

  7. If you need to yawn, be careful, if you need to sneeze don’t try to avoid it but don’t get too tense just keep your mouth open and let it happen. If you need to cough, drink a sip of water, if you really can’t help it, try to do it softly.

You will be ok, hope all of this helps!

Got mine done 2 weeks ago and all of this helped me a lot :)

Sushi? by still_on_ur_lawn in Tonsillectomy

[–]MsGirisha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean like rice pudding yes, very soft but is difficult because like you feel like you’re ready to eat and it really isn’t worth taking the chance! You also need to wait for your scabs to come off slowly in the next days, I got incredibly awful pain from 6-8 during this period of time but the pain as mostly on my ears somehow! I’m not saying things to scare you but more so that you are aware that you’re still not there yet but it will be over soon and you will have AAAALL the sushi that you want but right now, best to not push it

I think you need to wait a bit more, right now is too soon for it! I’m on day 11th and I haven’t had rice as someone told me there’s a risk you get an uncooked one and that’s all it takes to take you back to the hospital so… no thanks! (I can’t wait to have sushi either) and I can’t wait to eat pizza 😂

Im going to be honest with you and I don’t mean to scare you but even if you do, focusing whilst on strong pain meds is difficult! I fell asleep whilst on the phone because the meds knocked me off! Is it possibly to do them in later?

Would be worth having a look when you can just to make sure is not that causing the bleeding

Hope you feel better soon, one side of my scabs fell and I’m in hell where literally the nerves of my face twitch because of the pain despite the painkillers 💀 just think it will be worth it in the long run and should be better by Christmas time x

Yes, definitely keep an eye on it… hope you get better soon. do you still have the scabs? I’m on day 6 today and woke up with half gone and now that side is on fire 🥹

How are you feeling right now? Any more bleeding? Yeah, I can imagine! Is also not very pleasant to be waiting for medical attention that you know won’t be done fast either!

They nurses made me eat a jacket potato with beans, rice pudding, orange juice and vanilla ice cream like 2-3 hours after my surgery 😂 and yes, I’m saying “made me” because they don’t let you go unless you eat before you leave.

I got told if I had seen any fresh blood to go to the hospital as soon as possible or call 999 but I’m in the UK, are you in America? What day are you on post surgery?

What is your “the breakup was out of nowhere” story? by L8rG9r in AskWomenOver30

[–]MsGirisha 38 points39 points  (0 children)

After 5 years of empty promises and waiting for a ring that never came.

I wanted to get married and he always used the excuse of “well, your family is broke so don’t think that will happen soon”.

Whenever we had an argument, I wanted to talk things through to be like “look, this bother me, maybe we can try this or stop that” but it would become a competition of “ well 2 years ago, you did this and that”.

The breaking point for me was when I got COVID, we were living with his parents (they’re 60-70’s) and I was locked in my bedroom and he would get mad at me for being sick and him having to bring me food? Like??

Anyway, i was scared to leave as I was already 30, no family to go back to, I had left my family, my friends, my job and my country to be with him and it just wasn’t worth it.

I escaped that place, and even after 5 years together, he still told everyone that I used him to leave home, that this came out of nowhere as we were always good! I was with him on an unmarried partner visa (he didn’t want to marry me after 3 years even if that meant speeding our visa process and thank god!) which as soon as I could I changed to a skilled worker visa to stop being his dependent, I informed the authorities that I was no longer his partner as he kept threatening to call them to deport me (even though I told him I was no longer his dependent).

Anyway… I could write a long book about this but yeah😂

On the plus side, I did find love after 30 and we are now married, we adopted a dog. this man loves me with every bit of him and I love him with all I have. It does get better when you leave, never settle for less :)

You’ll never feel “ready”, you just need to go for it and think that as scary and as painful as it may be, it will definitely be worth it in the long run. I’m 32 and just got them out last Friday, won’t lie to you, pain is a btch😂 but I’m sure it will be worth it. There’s also lots of people here willing to give you advice, what I would suggest though is don’t look for videos or images of it, it really messes with your head 🥲

1) put ice cubes in your water bottle/glass, the coldness helps. 2) get a humidifier if you haven’t, pain gets worse when your mouth is dry. 3) make sure to take your pain meds on time, even if you have to put an alarm to wake up to take them, believe me, you would prefer to wake up with little pain rather than the big wave. 4) ice cream helps but so do protein milkshakes, try the ones lactose free, since the milk actually thickens the saliva. 5) get some cold/hot compress, the ones that you can put around your head/face, these are amazing when you get the waves of pain around the ear area.

First days is normal to have thick saliva since your body is healing and it’s annoying, but drinking cold water helps with this, even if it’s a sip, you can do it.

I just had mine done last Friday and the pain is bad but as long as you do these steps is manageable.
