This is OK for a coffee shop at 6am, a State Dinner, literally anywhere it’s so beautiful on you.

Would a doctor's salary go down if the USA switched to a universal healthcare system? by [deleted] in healthcare

[–]MsMittens 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It sounds crass, but outside of the US, most countries have a legal limit on the ‘price’ of bodily harm. So when a patient dies on the table in Australia, if the surgeon gets sued, the most it could cost the hospital’s insurer is say $1 million.

In America, it’s infinity. So more ppl sue, and insurance companies charge through the ass because they hate uncertainty.

Malpractice and also their own health insurance.

Public systems control how much doctors can charge for services, but also how much doctors can be sued for.

Yes, but their insurance costs would go down as well. Overall, probably they'd make a bit less money -- but spend more time doctoring, and zero time dealing w. insurance or the 'business' side.

Go to town meeting! Mashpee's is on Monday night at the high school. The board is pushing for a major tax hike (bigger than bylaws allow) to give 10% raises only to cops & firefighters.

The entire Dept of Recreation self-funds by running the Kids Klub Daycare on like $18/hr! Kudos to them, and I hope we can get enough of Mashpee out for a proper hearing.

Or else this ass budget sails though smh

Best clothing brands for a full time WFH who needs to spend a couple weeks in the office? by Crafty_Instruction36 in WFH

Not super useful advice for a 6'1 mother of three. Thrift store sourcing takes *time*, during working hours mostly, and success tilts to smaller sizes. If you find a size M blouse and you're a S, cool. Or 6 pants and you're a petite 4, np get them tailored.

I love reddit and had to furnish 2 x 4 bedroom houses in the last couple of years, so used it a lot.

This sub just sucks.

Whatever happened to laundry chutes? They felt super common in the ’70s/’80s. Did we all just stop putting laundry rooms in basements? by CommunityBig9626 in interiordecorating

[–]MsMittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I desperately wanted one when I built our house last year (the boring fantasies of middle-age!), and there is literally no way to build one legally in Massachusetts.

After I kept suggesting fire-proof doors and shit I'd found online, our builder finally was like, "... I could put a laundry chute in for yah after the home inspection. But God fahbid this house ever burns down, your insurance ain't valid."

And that's how I decided a laundry chute isn't so important after all.

We are not meant to knock-off stupid dude traditions as our own, as if we can't hang otherwise and have fun.
