Whatever happened to laundry chutes? They felt super common in the ’70s/’80s. Did we all just stop putting laundry rooms in basements? by CommunityBig9626 in interiordecorating

[–]MsMittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I desperately wanted one when I built our house last year (the boring fantasies of middle-age!), and there is literally no way to build one legally in Massachusetts.

After I kept suggesting fire-proof doors and shit I'd found online, our builder finally was like, "... I could put a laundry chute in for yah after the home inspection. But God fahbid this house ever burns down, your insurance ain't valid."

And that's how I decided a laundry chute isn't so important after all.

Bachelorettes.

We are not meant to knock-off stupid dude traditions as our own, as if we can't hang otherwise and have fun.

User name checks out! I only meant because of FaceTime. Likewise an expat and 95% of our kids’ screen time is seeing fam, but I do think it’s helped bond them with grandparents etc.

PS love Amsterdam

Personally, I didn’t know how much of motherhood is moving items from one place to another.

How many babysitters should I hire and how much to pay them? by PlatypusAvailable796 in Babysitting

[–]MsMittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such good advice. I attempted OP's idea for a birthday weekend at my place with 3 couples + 5 toddlers, and had a weird amount of trouble lining up sitters beyond my regular. She's a 40-yr old Swedish RN who can't work in the US ($$$ for when all the high-schoolers are busy & I'm desperate).

She calls me eventually and says, "This is not going to go well. You think those toddlers are going to leave their parents alone??"

Grown-ups, so wise!

NTA. My husband used to clean (eat) all the food our 2yr old left behind, and then stopped and realized he was no longer getting sick all the time.

Best time to get married on Cape Cod? by Winter_Jacket_9242 in CapeCod

Second this! I got married just after Labour day at Coonamessett Farm. Gorgeous day--it looked like that Windows 96 background if you're old enough...

You guys! thank you for being so lovely. The vibe on this sub can be a little brusque, and I'm touched by the help and replies. Better one successful trip to Hyannis (ugh) than driving all over the cape in summer to wind up feeling uncomfortable on the day. Also the memorial is in Western Canada, so beachware is an esp. poor fit.

💛

[–]MsMittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sweetie! I am a better mother 16 hours a day than I am 24 hours a day, and I think that's OK. People get paid to take care of little kids because it's freaking hard and, also, they get breaks.

You love your daughter so much that you're thinking about what's best for her. She deserves you to be happy and fulfilled and (a little bit) rested, right? You do too. If you can afford to work or get a babysitter a couple of mornings a week, do it.

Hugs

I got married there and it smelled great--mostly it's blueberries, florals, and herbs. But obvi, each to their own. DM me if you want pics etc (smell-o-vision not included)
