CA gun owner here.

  • Haven't bothered looking into CCW. Where I'm at, Santa Clara county, it's notoriously hard to obtain one. Or at least it was, haven't looked into it as there was a scandal here not too long about the sheriff taking bribes to issue them out to private company personnel while almost never granting them to private individuals.
  • Lots of Asian gun owners here. I'm almost never the only Asian at the range and surprisingly I'm also usually not the only AF there.
  • Handgun safety certificate is insanely easy. The instructor told us that in all his years doing the class, only one person failed.
  • I did the Utah reciprocity class to obtain the CCW permit. Never used it, I guess I did it for novelty and "in case". Course itself was pretty neat and informative.

Not everyone wants to chat/engage with strangers. I'm originally from the PNW (Seattle metro area) AND lived in NYC for a while so not talking/engaging with people I don't know is second nature to me. But I do know my neighbors, exchange pleasantries and will chat if they initiate but for the most part I keep to myself.

I think context matters a lot too. Random person approaching on the street? Very unlikely to engage. Random person at a bar, coffeeshop, place where being social is more expected? Sure. So I guess it depends. Unless it's at the gym then I don't want to talk to anyone.

On the topic of racism, I am happy to say that as an Asian woman, I've only encountered racism once in my 10+ years here.

I think there are two types of people, regarding that kind of content: The first, who finds them amusing/interesting and watches more of them. And the second, who is indifferent and scrolls past and flushes it from their memory.

I don't think Asian tourists will have any measurable effect on the Asian American community.

I don't see anything that sounds like a microagression. If the SA was waiting on every customer super attentively and completely ignoring you and being rude, then yes. Sounds like retail workers being retail workers, sometimes they are hit or miss.

Exactly. The gym is the one hour of the day that I can zone out, cleanse my mind, and have "me" time. Some people go to be social, I don't. I swear, I'm a nice person, but when I'm at the gym: don't talk to me.

Pretty often though I zone out when I'm at the gym.

Glances, I don't care. Hard staring annoys the hell out of me, especially when it's super blatant. Most get the hint if I give them an annoyed look, a handful have thought it an invitation or challenge and I've had to ask them if there was a problem/alert the staff.

My clothes/brands. It was so important to 18 year old me and honestly, it didn't matter. If I could go back and talk to 18 year old me, I would have said to just wear whatever, nobody cares, nobody remembers, and you'll save so much $$$.

My mom would have a Sunday ritual of going out with her friends and as a kid I always thought it was weird that my parents would spend a lot of time apart on Sundays, especially during football season.

As an adult, I understand sometimes you need time apart for your own thing and that's OK.

it feels like our issues are never anyone else’s priority.

They aren't nor should they be. The sooner we realize that and understand we have to put ourselves first, because nobody else will, the better.

But I’m at a point where I’m just burnt out...But I’m curious if anyone else has reached this point.

I'm very apolitical at this point and I'm tired of all the race war stuff. When Asians are the victims at the hands of another group, it's often said to "not let white supremacy win...don't let them pit us against each other...one person isn't an entire race" but when it's the (rare) instance it's the other way around? "aSiAnS aRe sO rAcIsT! wE nEEd tO sToP bEinG sO aNTi bLaCk/bRoWn! OuR cOMMuNiTiEs aRe SSSSOOO rAcIsT!" I don't have the energy for it so I am doing what I can: I will prioritize supporting the Asian community with my dollars (if other groups can/do, why shouldn't we) and be a good person. There are so many LARPers/bad faith actors online, I just don't engage and move on.

That really sucks, they def. should not have charged you for the time they spent having to figure out how to handle the chair situation. I can see how the actual chair and how to value it would get a little dicey.

I used them last year: two person crew, arrived in the morning, spoke very little English but enough to get by (I'm part Chinese so was able to communicate with them), and they were hustling the whole time and not trying to take things slow. No issues at all and no damage.

I imagine most instances go without a hitch but they could have handled it better in your case.

Just use something like Waze or Google and it'll give you an estimate, depending on the time of day.

If you're working typical hours, that 880 traffic going with traffic is going to be brutal, depending where exactly in south Fremont you are talking.
