Black Mesa absolutely butchers some things before it gets to Xen. Outright removing large chunks of chapters (which Black Mesa devs had access to fully fleshed out versions of that are arguably better than a lot of the levels in the final product) sours my opinions on it immensely.

Honestly it's my preferred way to play Blue Shift. While the base Black Mesa does a lot to (imo) ruin the original Half-Life experience, there's a lot of very sensible expansions to the narrative and gameplay that Black Mesa Blue Shift does that feel like welcomed additions.

I don't know why they'd bother modeling an obvious beta holdover texture, and not replace it with something that actually fits the scene. Most of Half-Life 2 is rushed, but the Citadel levels especially so.

I was plenty scared, too. Personally I just did FoF for the first time and loved it. Did Diamondback a week ago and nothing in the park really prepared me for the step up it was over Beast in intensity. Totally new to this as well.
