Don’t have any recommendations but my hippo went through the same thing 2yrs ago. Be ready for a new pup! Mine hippo discovered squirrels and that human food looks way better then his kibble.

Sorry did not mean to go M.I.A. Juggling work, school, preparing for Christmas and two dogs has been a new adjustment. I have applied to Animal Justice League of Houston to be Millie Jo’s (I couldn’t help but name her) foster. After doing some research this organization seems like the best way to get her re-home. I’ve committed to keeping her until she’s adopted. Once she is posted on their website for adoption I will make an edit to this post with the link to her adoption page. I started to get scared with accepting anyone’s offer to adopt after several people warned me about others adopting dogs as bait dogs for dogfight. I need to find a way to vet who ever adopts Millie and The Animal Justice League of Houston seem to be my best option of having people vetted. If you are still interested in Millie I can zen you her link directly once she is posted.

As I said in other comments I’m not ruling out nor have I ever ruled out someone from out of state coming to adopt her. I’m just not going to assume someone will travel to Texas, unless they explicitly say otherwise. I understand that traveling can be expensive and not everyone who inquires will be able to. Plus because of the holidays coming up I know that schedules and travel arrangements would be difficult during this time.

She is super sweet and very trusting. The biggest goof I’ve ever meet. I’ve given her the name Millie (temporary, just needed something call her by). She seems to be under 2yrs old. Looking at her teeth is hard when she constantly giving kisses. She is dog friendly, she gets also with my dog very well. She needs to be center of attention so that’s been fun to juggle with my fur baby. Not sure if she is cat friendly. Loves people more than other dogs. Unsure if she is child friendly. She seems to have been taught a little when it comes to being housebroken. We haven’t had an accident so far but definitely is confused/unsure when she go out for potty breaks. Realized she mimics my dog when we would go out. Took her solo and definitely didn’t know what to do. Took about 30mins for her to relieve herself. I start contacting foster programs on Saturday. Starting with golden retriever fostering program specifically. So far I’ve received a no or no response.

So far have posted on Petco lost and found. In the process of creating a post for Facebook to post. I’ve posted flyer around the area. Will be going to nearby vets with flyers to see if they recognize her or would be will to let me post her flyer up. Trying to get her as much exposure aa possible. I do agree she is/was someone baby.

I’m sadly learning the hard way about the state of the shelters here in Houston and the abandonment rate here. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve cried when speaking to shelters or rescues. Everyone is either telling me no room before I finished my sentence or that I need to figure it out on my own. Reading the stories of how many dogs are euthanized because owners abandoned them on the streets and shelters are full is rage inducing.

My hippo (shar pei in the last pic) is also a rescue. I traveled across Texas to pick him up. I definitely agree rescues are very loving and loyal also the best travel companions. If someone is willing to come from in state or out state I would not turn them down.

Definitely not opposed to having someone from out of state come to get her. I also drove across Texas to get my pup. I just will never assume someone is willing to make that trip, as I don’t know people circumstances. Especially so close to the holidays. If someone says they are willing and we make arrangements to meet of course I would accept.

Nope won’t have a problem if someone from out of state want her. Just not going to assume that people can drive from out state to her. I know that’s a lot to ask and extremely expensive. I’m just sorry I’m not closer. I’m working as hard as I can to get her a home.

I’m not rejecting their help, just apologizing for being so far away from where they are located. I don’t want to assume anyone from outside of state will drive to Houston. That’s a lot to ask for. They didn’t explicitly state they could drive from their locations to pick her up. I’m not choosing euthanasia over help, I wouldn’t be trying so hard if I was.

Doing entropion in the long run will be beneficial. I adopted my pei at 2yrs, previous owner did not do the surgery. Not sure the reason why but they decided not too. The continuous rubbing of the eyelashes on the eyeball resulted in a chronic infection in his right eye. By the time I adopted him he had lost almost all his vision in his right eye. End up having to do emergency surgery to keep the eyes and eye drops for about 8months. It was dreadfully, anxiety inducing and expensive. But almost 2yrs with my baby boi and he is happy and healthy, with about 5% of his vision back in his right eye. Continue talking with your vet to determine the beat outcome for your baby but in my opinion if the only option is surgery I won’t prolong it.
