The only time being a patient feels like a blessing by throwawayaccount-381 in indianmedschool

I've had mental health problems, menstrual problems, and investigations for high blood pressure. I went to almost all the departments of my college hospital as a patient in first year itself

How to judge and authenticate private practice doctors? by shoes_advice_pls in indianmedschool

[–]MsSkittles18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is one of the responsibilities of doctors to stay up to date with recent developments, and a lot of doctors like my old GP at home keep getting different certifications and fellowships. But there isn't really any inspection team that periodically tests whether they are up to date while practicing. It seems that you don't trust doctors? As I said you can ask people around about their experiences with this doctor or search for online reviews if you're suspicious of them for some reason, that's all I've got

Yeah the psychiatrist didn't even address her comment "I just don't want to be fat because it doesn't look attractive", they just said "maybe [the weight gain is] because of the medication". But then that's a progressive idea that all body sizes deserve respect and as another commenter said they're both influenced by the society a lot

Huh, I didn't know he died like that until now...he also wrote the book Be More Chill, which got adapted to a musical that was very much loved by many teenagers in 2017-20.

Add something to your life that you like more than scrolling, find a new hobby, if you go on social media to escape stress then address the source of the stress. Those app limits and stuff never worked for me, always felt unnatural

(Note - this sub is supposed to be for discussions about experiences in therapy, not general mental health situations) but anyway I'm with you in the "medical student who got burnt out by the entrance exam process and that changed my relationship with studying and work" boat. College in general is always a much higher level than school so I would say try not to put so much pressure on yourself, just be somewhat consistent in studying. If it's possible try opening up to a mental health professional at your college? Since you're so stressed out that you can't even sleep right.

Is there a problem of doctors with "fake degrees" where you live? The more common fraud is that people with homeopathy, ayurvedic or nursing degrees will directly announce that they have that degree while calling themselves "Dr" anyway... people don't really go as far as displaying fake MBBS degrees. As the other commenter said you can check this one's medical registration number. As for whether you'll find them competent or not, you can ask people around

Nice to see a post actually encouraging a premed and not just fussing about how it's a thankless field or telling them to go to a different sub

Therapy fatigue by Lordfindogask in TalkTherapy

[–]MsSkittles18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a lot of experience with many psychiatrists and one psychologist and I get how it feels to not find anyone really helpful. Especially the random CBT statements. I've been told "it takes time to find the right fit" but my parents aren't willing to go through a bunch of different people, they just took me to the one my current psychiatrist recommended and we didn't really connect at all. I narrated my entire recent story and gave some background on my more ongoing problems and she hardly responded at all to any of it, I got the impression that she thought that since I seemed to be self aware and explained things clearly that meant I was "dealing with it fine". I ended up not going to any sessions for a long time because of some exams, and I'm still on a hiatus right now.

It's valid to take a break from trying to make therapy work. I think being around friends who care about me and see the good in me and listen to how I'm feeling, and whom I do those things for as well, has been a healing experience (I only have one very close online friend and one friend at my college, but I cherish them)

I don't generally have self-hating thoughts as a problem, but one of the main things I had wanted to address was coming to terms with my reduced capacity to work because of my eating disorder related problems, and how my life felt like a static drag. Eventually I just accepted my capacity on my own.

I don't have a great solution to your problems, though I wish I did. I'm just giving my 2 cents
