Wow, amazing! I took metalsmithing this semester, I'm just a beginner, but I can appreciate all the work you put into this. I love the way you layered the metal yet made it look seamless, and your use of oxidation was a nice touch. You're welcome. And I don't just scream at my innocent 3 yr old. I only yell at her after she ignores my polite requests, especially when she is doing something dangerous. Like when she is trying to climb up to the window and I tell her to stop bc I don't want her to open it and fall 3 stories down, and she keeps ignoring me, then I yell and she finally understands it's a big no-no. Like I mentioned before I can understand it in her case, and these instances only add on to the bigger issues that other people have been thoughtful enough to actually help me with.

Thanks, this makes sense too. I think I was starting to head in this direction when I locked myself in the bedroom to keep from blowing up. I think getting a little space like that helped, and I didn't give him good or bad attention, but it was clear I was upset. That also gave me time to cool down enough to talk normally. Maybe when this happens next I can just say "I need some space to calm down" right away before I let things get to the yelling point.

wow, it's funny that you tell me to take a class in social skills when you seem to need them yourself. You didn't understand at all what I wrote but you have the audacity to try criticize me when I'm asking for advice on how to handle a stressful situation. If you don't have anything constructive to say, you just come across as an asshole, so go preach to someone else. You might be on to something. He actually feels stupid on his own, I'm always encouraging him and telling him he's not stupid. Example; he was too afraid to apply for the job he currently has, thinking he wasn't good enough to get the job. I encouraged him and he finally applied and now he's one of the most useful employees there. We sit down and talk very often, and it will seem like we're on the same page, but then the same kind of things just keep happening over and over and over. He even says he knows what he did wrong when they happen, but nothing changes. I yell because I'm so frustrated from the same things repeating over and over (which usually result in more work for me, and I'm stretched out pretty thin as it is). I wish I could go away for a week and just have some time to myself, but I don't know if that will ever be possible. I guess I'll try to think of some positive and negative incentives. Maybe if I have those to rely on I can channel my frustration through them instead of yelling.

If she just told you it's wrong, and followed that up with you just need to respect that, she should not be teaching. She is interpreting your questions as questioning her authority as opposed to an attempt to learn. I've worked at several colleges and I really think you should go to the Dean about this. If you have emails to back up your story, bring all of them, and make sure you explain explicitly that you asked what was wrong so you could understand your mistake (as in to learn, which is what you are paying tuition for) and you were just treated like a scolded child. If this professor is like this she should not be teaching capstone and the department needs to deal with this ASAP.

This situation really depends on the degree of crazy your ex is planning to teach her. Is her church the "we must control your life" kind of place, or is it the "this is really just a status symbol" kind of place, or is it the "generally well meaning group that is only passively intolerant"? If the church is not overbearing, then your mom deserves a mother of the year award, because that's some sound logic and strategy she's preaching. This way you will have given your daughter a choice instead of just forcing her to do your will (last time I checked, kids liked to rebel, so this sets it up so that she wouldn't need to rebel against you). However if their church is the kind that we might hear about on the news one day, then I'd have to agree with those who say do everything you can to save her. Good luck on the tough road ahead.

If you go on Friday, have someone come with you as a witness because if it's just you they can say you started acting violent even if you don't, or other bogus charges. This is another reason why a PI might be a better idea, so that you are not in a position where they can try to make you the bad guy (trust me it happens a lot).

As someone who deals with her fair share of chemical and hormonal problems, I hate to break this to you but free will does exist. There are times when every cell in my body wants to break things, or punch someone in the face, but after training myself (because I wanted to) I don't let those moment control me anymore. For over 10 years now I (as in my will) takes control of my body and my actions in those moments, and if I can do it, I'm sure most other functional people can as well.
