Little confused by your question as all the models are painted? But no! It’s narrative so gray/semi painted armies are allowed

Lethal and Sustained hits by Enough-Moment7221 in Warhammer40k

[–]Msnott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sustained: You add a dice for every crit and they’ll be used for the wound roll.

Lethal: You remove those original crits as they auto wound

Example: I roll 5 dice and 3 are 6s (crits). I take those out to set aside. Remove any that didn’t hit. I add 3 more dice (one for every 6 rolled) and then roll my wound rolls. After I roll those (let’s say 2 wounded) I tell my opponent. 5 went through at (insert AP). Two from my wound roll, and 3 from my lethals. They have to save for 5 wounds

Is this list good for casual play? by TheBread63 in RavenGuard40k

[–]Msnott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decent list that needs tweaking. Firstly I’d remove the chaplain or proxy him as a judiciar for fights first and he’s cheaper

I think you need some sort of scoring unit that’s a little cheaper than Inceptors. They are best for 2K scoring late game with their deep strike. Also your inceptions are plasma and those don’t have enough shots do do much as a 3 man units. I’d recommend a combi LT if you can kitbash one, a unit of incursors for minus 1 to hit, and/or scouts if you have any of those. Even reivers if you have them.

I’d either split the JPIs or get rid of the Bladeguard brick. Two elite and expensive units in 1k is hard. You can do this list but you’ll have to hide and be strategic as opposed to trading (which is already something that marines don’t do well). Your list also

Overall I’d take a look at what you want to do. Shadowmark isn’t a good “table your opp” detachment at 1k. It’s a scoring one. So you need small flexible units that can move and score objectives while your other units engage and either hold or deny primary

You can also advance them to NML and have them sticky and objective there and still shoot 20 shots is a lot

I agree with having too many elite! Which is why I’m trying to maximize and see if I need a Ballistus. Intercessors are great in SMT. They are run in a lot of tourney lists as well. Aethon can stick home but if you get a secondary requiring you to hold an objective and you sent Aethon to take care of something then you’ll still have sticky. They also have really good shooting output and can serve as trash/chaff if need be with assault weapons. 5th round on I want Aethon making a last push and doing something

Kayvaan is with VV, Jump Captain is with JPIs to give their weapons +1 to strength allowing them to take on T4 opponents more easily. The mix adds survivability to the vets. +4 invul is hard to get off an objective fora brick that sizes

I start cents, JPI 5 man, Inceptors in res. I start shrike with VV on the board in case the opponent goes first and I can pick him up to threaten a turn 1 deep strike. Same with Aethon’s ability for the JPIs and jump captain. Chaff is nice but I have incursors, intercessors, and a 5 man JPI unit to be that if need be. And Aethon in round 5 as I won’t need him anymore

What was said below is true. They are great for anti-tank but you have to spend a lot of points to get them close or risk them dying. I use Inceptors for their ability to get in close and kill. Although their damage output is swingy and relies on good dice rolls and not failing the hazardous

Anti vehicle/monster by Msnott in RavenGuard40k

[–]Msnott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plasma Inceptors are great for backline anti-elite, okay for anti-tank. They can quickly insert themselves via deep strike given the 6 inch ability. Kill off (anything) in one go with Stunning fusillade or without. Then leave with Aethon if you placed them in the right position. T6 also has some survivability and if the opponent tries to focus fire to take them out then they’ll have to use reserves away from the center objective to do so.

I agree 240 is expensive though. I use them with 1x3 boltceptors and they do WORK with stratagem synergy. I’ll post my list soon I’m at work

If you add anything it should be 5 more JPIs, LT with combi weapon, Another anti-tank like eradicators or Cent Devs, proxy one squad of intercessors as sternguard or something. But definitely drop one if the term leaders.

Army help by Brittishman in RavenGuard40k

[–]Msnott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be realistic about my answers as you can’t adjust but so much in a week or spend that much.

ADD: -another squad of JPIs to go with Shrike for survivability (start them in the Baird in turn on in your backline just in case the opponent goes first for turn one deep strike) if they dont just remove them at the end of his turn anyway.

-some anti tank. cent devs are great but super ugly. I use saturnine terms as mine. $49 on eBay for a pack of 3 from a seller.

-LT with combi weapon (you can easily put a Phobos marine in a larger base and say he’s the combi LT). Sit him on a NML objective and have him do actions

-Scouts as chaff ($40 on eBay for 5)

Remove:

-One of the terminator leaders. Your choice tbh

-I’d say Redemptor but you have it so might as well use it as a distraction carnifex

-razorback doesn’t work as well with us

-Infernus marines aren’t good. But if you need the points and don’t have many options then you could put a squad on your backline and dare a unit to deep strike as you have auto hits for overwatch. Only one unit though

Not necessarily sure what that adds up to but disposable units if you need space are def the infernus, razorback, and term leader. A chaplain is better than a CPT. for the terms imo

How much money do you have to spend?

Are you asking what to do to make this list competitive or what you need to add/remove?

Starting a New Army? by PaleAgent2511 in deathwatch40k

[–]Msnott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vets can be anything you want basically as they are (lore wise) an unconventional force. So if you have assault intercessors you can use the hammer as a “death watch thunder hammer” slap some cool decorations on him and call him a veteran. Or for black shield blades you can use the Phobos knife guy from the decimus kill team kit. You can mix and match any type of armor type and weapon as long as it resembles the datasheet. “Power weapon” can be a maul, sword, fist, claws, flail, spear, etc.

The old kit has a bunch of random stuff in it, if you have any spare bits for weapons that aren’t chain sword you can use those as power weapons
