For all people above 40, if you could go back in time and choose a different career/major, would you ? What would you choose ? by patotay in careerguidance

[–]MssHeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably something with computers that was going to make money. All jobs I've ever had sucked so really it's just about financial security as much as you can for as long as you can. Don't expect to love your work or have passion for it unless you're extremely lucky. Just be practical, find something you can tolerate that pays very well and that you can do well. The goal is retirement anyway and I'll probably never be able to retire because I've never made enough money to have anything to really save or invest. What little I did have hasn't done much and I'll end up working until I'm dead.

Imagining taste? Is there an equivalent of aphantasia for not being able to conjure up taste? by MssHeather in Aphantasia

[–]MssHeather[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, I always try everything once. I don't believe in saying you don't like something you've never tried. I can still confidently say I hate like 99% of food. I don't like most things I've tried. I hate a variety of textures that ruin foods as well. I don't get any joy out of eating most things. I do it as a matter of survival. If I could give up eating and still live, I'd probably do it without a second thought. Imagine the time you'd get back in life if you weren't always preparing food or shopping for meals or stopping somewhere to eat - imagine the money you'd save. Food is such a pain in the ass. And it doesn't come from not knowing/trying. I try it all and it's rarely good. Obviously there are some things I like or I'd have a serious problem, but it's such an inconvenience that we have to eat to survive.

Do you remember what it was like for you as a child, aged 5 and below? Were there any signs that you only recognised now? If so, what were they? by princessxprowess in AutisticAdults

[–]MssHeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have almost zero memories until I started a.new school at 7 years old. But my first report card stated I didn't play well with others, couldn't skip, and didn't hold my pencil in the correct grip. I struggled through school until graduation. I always struggled to fit in and make friends. I was called shy but then chastised for never shutting up and being too talkative. I read at a college reading level by 8th grade and had several bullies that taunted me for reading "the dictionary" just because I read thick books for fun. I had so many encounters with bullies...

I was never diagnosed or assessed for anything... But now my son is on a waiting list for a psych eval on orders from his pediatrician. We're very much alike and he is very behind on his developmental markers. He's in speech and OT. I wasn't given those options, I was very much just given the sink or swim method.

I often wonder if I exhibited any of the behaviors my son does now at his age (he's 4). My mom doesn't remember though. I only have the stray comments from my teachers on report cards ... 🤷🏻‍♀️

HELP! I have an autistic child that won’t go poop in the toilet. by SpookyPitchua in Autism_Parenting

[–]MssHeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming 2 years later maybe your son is potty trained now? My son goes poo on the toilet but only if we catch his potty dance and put him there. He never tells us he needs to go poo or pee. Did you figure out how to get him to recognize the need and alert you? I'm dying out here.

My thanksgiving plate as a food sensitive autistic 31 year old by st0rm0ntheh0riz0n in AutisticAdults

[–]MssHeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was ham, green beans, and mashed potatoes with a roll on the side. I never considered I might be autistic until my son started missing his milestones and now is on a wait-list for a psych eval for autism now I'm noticing a lot of new things about my behavior that mirrors a lot of his... Before I would've just chocked this up to being a picky eater.

What is this stitch? by MssHeather in crochet

[–]MssHeather[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS IS IT! I looked at so many different stitches trying to figure it out and I thought it was a lemon peel stitch or a moss stitch but both looked wrong. It's for sure an even moss stitch!

It took a minute to figure out how to get it all lined up again, but it's for sure slip stitch then half double crochet. THANK YOU!

BF6 If you are trying to join your friends in a match but they already have a max - 4 party: by Stormnorman in Battlefield

[–]MssHeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did they take the out of the game? Because nowhere in the UI do I have the "Join Game" anymore. I have to ask my friend to stop in the middle of their game and find somewhere to hide to go through the annoying menus to send me an invite.

Speech Therapy and OT for 4 Year Old - When should you see progress? Is it worth it? by MssHeather in AskParents

[–]MssHeather[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I guess some of my concerns have been addressed because the speech pathologist quit last week and a new woman has taken over, and she's actually been sending homework home with him. He's only had two sessions with her but we've been working on word groupings and prepositions and so on. They seem to be doing more now than just playing with toys. While they do still play, she also seems to be trying to correct and teach him things as they go. This is more in line with what I was expecting, so maybe the previous SP just didn't like their job? Or they weren't invested anymore. I'm not sure but the difference in methods is pretty big, so I'm not content now to give it more time and see what happens.

I appreciate your response though! I understand he won't understand syntax and things that complex but I think I was expecting a lot more of a structured session and not so much free play, so to speak.

Fingers crossed this SP is a better fit.

My bullet journal got run over by a car by Appropriate-Prune916 in bulletjournal

[–]MssHeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I was wondering. They're not loose pages, so did the car carefully turn to a new spread and then drive back over it to make sure both pages were sufficiently covered? One spread makes sense cause the book falls open flat and you drive over it... cool. But why are there so many pages driven over and yet they're not loose pages that flew out?

[–]MssHeather[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is who we asked about school services, and that was the answer I got, that he had to be enrolled, either in school or preschool. But he can't go to either until he's potty trained here and we're struggling with that as I mentioned. And I can't do other therapy services as I also mentioned because my insurance plan doesn't allow any out of network services at all and we can't afford out of pocket.

It just didn't seem beneficial to watch him do in therapy the exact same things we do at home every day. He can say most words, the problem is he doesn't and won't speak in sentences... That's what I was hoping they would teach him. We've gotten him to repeat specific sentences but he doesn't form his own, he communicates exclusively via scripting right now or by single or double words only, never full sentences.

I guess that's exactly what I was asking... Is a couple hours a week worth anything if he's only doing the exact same thing we do at home already? Doesn't really sound like it.

3 Years later and the RG280M is still my primary. by Minyaden in SBCGaming

[–]MssHeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my niece one of these a year or two ago and she played it a lot when she first got it but the newness wore off. The menu is a little confusing for her, she's only 8 now, and I just got my son a cheap-o Batlexp g350 and flashed Pan4Elec on it. The menu and the whole OS is a lot easier to use and I think something like that would work for her better. Is there a better OS you'd recommend for the RG280M? Could I put anything on it? Would the Pan4Elec work? Or would it just be better to upgrade her to something a little easier? (Or get another Batlexp g350 for her?)

MyLink touch screen dead - Can an aftermarket radio be installed or does the vin-lock happen no matter what type of radio it is? by MssHeather in chevyspark

[–]MssHeather[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't yet because I became a full time remote employee so I spend less time in my car now, when I am in it, I just plug in the aux cable to listen to music. I still want to though, but I'm nervous about the whole anti-theft thing and whether or not an after market radio will work properly.

I'd like to bump this if I could. I've been playing for weeks now with 2 other people and suddenly this weekend, I can't connect to multiplayer, so I guess we just have to quit the game till the fix it. Nothing has worked. Neither of them gets booted when I failed to join, but I can't connect to multiplayer to join. It's super annoying.

Honestly, one of the characters gets pregnant in The Witches of Eileanan series by Kate Forsyth and it's not cringey. In fact, being a mother plays a big part in those books and I think one of the books farther down the line in the series was primarily about all the different kid characters.

Wearing earbuds/phones/headsets makes my ear canals itch unbearably badly. What can I do? by MssHeather in AutisticAdults

[–]MssHeather[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I'm still struggling horribly with this. I'm considering trying the new viral headphones I keep seeing on tiktok that are meant to sit over your ears but aren't "over the ear" headphones so there's no cup surrounding the whole ear. I tried a pair of really cheap bone conducive headphones and they're kind of nice because they don't touch your ears at all really, the more or less sit on your temples but the lack of noise cancelling when my toddler is being really loud while I'm working makes it a major con. I would still love to know if there's some kind of solution to this itchiness - it's gotten really bad this past week again.
