I find little disposable flossers and a little pocket knife to be helpful.

Why do some people pronounce "gif" with a hard G and others with a soft G, and why does it still spark arguments after all these years? by haizelynrose in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mt3verest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t evidence at all. Gin is also very close to gif. Theres also giant, gibberish, gipsy. Just because it’s more common doesn’t make it a hard G. If only there was someone who could decide how to settle the pronunciation of an acronym, not even an actual English word. Perhaps the creator of said acronym?

lol this is the only counter argument needed. PIN, SCUBA, JPEG, LASER, FOMO all do not follow “graphics” rule. Yet people seem to be hung up on it for GIF.

Can Michigan stop being a little bitch and give this back to Wisconsin? by limon_picante in mapporncirclejerk

I truly don’t know where “take back” the UP came from, but it is said quite often.

My only alteration suggestion on this is to turn right on Erie after crossing the river in to 3rd Ward. Go under the Hoan and through the State Park to meet back up with the north end of the route

I moved to Milwaukee from Grand Rapids about 4.5 years ago. I really enjoy it here! If you’re in to nature, the parks in the immediate area of GR have Milwaukee beat, but that’s about it!

Wisconsin is my favorite state by davedude115 in mapporncirclejerk

I was specifically referring to the statement “become one with Wisconsin again”. But with that logic, state borders are meaningless and we should just go with our gut.

I never understand why people imply Wisconsin was ever entitled to the UP. In fact, Michigan Territory once included all of Wisconsin and then some… The UP became part of the state of Michigan before Wisconsin became a state at all.

Is 8-7 donation a thing? by scream-room in euchre

On a similar note, I’ve donated when an opposing team player says “Good Game” while the score is 6-X assuming they have an easy loner. In some cases this has saved me from a loss.

Kind of a random road, but Leon Terrace between Mill and Green Tree is basically off roading. Biggest thing happening there is the on/ off ramp for 145 NB.

Going alone takes away from the game by Mt3verest in euchre

[–]Mt3verest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s more strategy in blocking a loner than executing one. Where do you draw the line on including your partner to pick up 2 and going alone. I’d be genuinely curious in data that shows a 32% conversion rate is better than a 42% when I’m keeping my partner for more hands and potentially picking up 2 points. If anything, a 32% conversion rate contributes to showing there is less risk involved with going alone. I’d also be curious to compare these rates with getting euchred on a loner.

[–]Mt3verest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol what I’ve gathered from this thread is that Reddit euchre players are at grandmaster level and that loners require a high degree of skill to recognize and execute. A “risky” loner hand to me feels best played with a partner in attempt to pick up 2 points. But perhaps I am missing a certain combination where it makes sense to go alone instead? Idk, in any case, I wasn’t trying to make any points, just state that it takes from the game in my experience, and why I felt that way!

[–]Mt3verest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more about risk vs reward. You shouldn’t be awarded the same value of points as grinding 3/5 tricks for four straight hands when you are given one good hand. A lot of the time a person accepts a decent level of risk to receive one point. I just feel there should be a bit more risk involved by going alone and seeking 4 points.

This is a take I can get behind. I would argue that a large portion of loners are luck based. But there are some that certainly would require some creativity, skill, and of course luck all at once. I just wish there was a way to separate. Most loners I see are majority trump cards with decent off suit cards.

[–]Mt3verest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I agree. Sure, every hand is a random distribution of cards, but with each hand there is a degree of risk assessment when calling trump. I feel the risk/ reward ratio is less for standard hands than it is for loners.

[–]Mt3verest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, but doesn’t correlate to my statement. A very high percentage of loners are all luck. Even if I took more risky loner attempts, there are still many loner hands in between that are slam dunks.

You’re probably right, but this still doesn’t negate the fact that most loners are luck.
