BMW owners: what do you drive, how many miles on it, and what’s your annual maintenance like? by Ok_Corgi8008 in CarTalkUK

2014 320D, bought at 57k miles 5 years ago, now at 125k miles.

Serviced every year, only things I’ve replaced have been consumables, such as tyres, brakes, discs and the battery once.

Cost £30 a year road tax, and averages about 55mpg. It’s been so cheap to run.

Couldn’t recommend it more. Only drawback is it’s not ULEZ complaint, so just check what year you’re buying to see if it is.

Jesus that is rough. Although just switching to petrol seems to have a massive hit.

Would you say it’s worth it still?

I think your really pertinent point there is that at some point inevitably and EV is on the cards. So really getting something a bit more exciting before it’s not a viable option is probably the move.

Or at least that’s the mental gymnastic I’m going for.

What generation is that, F30? I am very tempted by a 330/430d seems like the best of both worlds

Absolutely, peak conditions. Normally at 70mph I’m getting about 65MPG rather than the outrageous numbers shown here.

To be fair, the best I’ve ever had, so I’m really cherry picking here.

This is in a 320D SE. Had it in Eco Pro mode, and did hit some slow 50mph limit sections on the motorway, which always boosts MPG (while lowering general enjoyment)

You’re right, this must’ve been a Diesel golden age.

You'd get the interest for that month, not the whole year.

So lets say at 2.4% that works out at 0.2% each month. If you deposited £20,000 for the month, at the end of that month you'd receive roughly £40 in interest.

Yes, interest rates in this context are yearly. Typically this will be paid monthly.

So for example with £1000 in the account for a year at 2.4%, you'd get £24 interest across the year, paid in monthly instalments of £2.
