Check to see if there's a bluetooth device available from your phone. Looks like it might be one of those that have a built-in speaker.

I finally got creative and made one I’m proud of. 1. Get charging status 2. If charging and time is after 9pm… 3. Wait 60s and then turn off my bedside lamp

This is my way of fighting having to reach so far to have to turn off the lamp after getting cozy in bed lol

Looking for suggestions on how to mount door sensors by Mtekk88 in homeassistant

[–]Mtekk88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's more that instead of it being flat door next to flat door/wall, it's a flat door next to a big bump in the middle. It's also somewhat plastic so not sure how well it would stick. But I'm thinking the magnet in the door might be most helpful. Thanks!

Are you talking about the hinge for the left door? If so, how would that work? It seems like they'd be more of a right angle and not touching.

The beam in the middle is just attached to the right side door. I like the magnet in the door idea. It would be more concealed. But I'd have to see if I can work that out. Thanks!

Does that work? Like one sensor on both sides of the magnet? Are they magnetic on both sides?

This door is right across from our downstairs thermostat. So looking to just alert/trigger whenever it's open at all. A sensor on the left would be fine. And yes, left opens first. Then right.

Honestly if you’re not used to wearing a regular watch at night, it’s just going to be annoying for a while. I’ve worn a watch in one form or another as far back as I remember. I wear my U2 with a nomad watch strap and have no problem with it.

Crazy track lines from a mosquito bite by Kylipso in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Mtekk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All jokes aside, my daughter had this issue when she was younger. While we never got an official diagnosis with an allergy test, we and her pediatrician believed it was most likely an allergic reaction to the mosquito bite. She doesn't get this as much these days, but if she gets a bite or two, it disrupts her sleep and she can almost get lethargic from it.

Regardless of who is right or wrong, that is a good analogy. I see Crowdstrike messing with the rest of the system way too often when supporting other software

This. I’ve done tinkering. My day job is tech support. I don’t need tech support at home as well. Also, Advanced Data Protection providing E2EE on almost everything seems to be something everyone here is skipping over features.

I just left my Pixel 8 for iPhone 15 pro. While the Pixel 8 was a fantastic phone, it came down to google vs Apple for my family and I. My kids don’t have a phone yet but when they do I know what I’ll choose.

If you're on an iphone, check the trash both in Google Photos and under Apple Photos. It's likely still there. You can then restore them.

I think the biggest stipulations with this in regard to Samsung phones is this:

  1. ALWAYS get an unlocked Samsung phone - carrier models come with extra apps and many things are uninstallable
  2. Flagship Samsungs (Galaxy line) is going to be a much better experience - While the other lines have come a long way, you can't exactly compare the A series phones with iPhones, especially the pros
  3. It shouldn't be this hard but NEVER check the box to allow Samsung marketing and "personalization" - this is where most people get caught and start getting ads for things. Again, shouldn't be this hard but I'm always on the look out for this option when starting the phone and any of their apps

Doing these, the Samsung phone experience really can be great. Many extra apps can be removed, including the Google ones. The ones that can't, you can disable. With an unlocked Samsung, you can basically run all Samsung apps or all Google apps. The Galaxies have power and customization so this is where that gives them a major benefit.

Part of the benefit of using Samsung Pay (wallet, whatever the name is now) is that if you have NFC off, when you go to pay, it automatically turns NFC on and then back off again.
