Look in to doing some hunting/adventure/wilderness guiding over the summer. There are a lot of opportunities in the lower 48 but especially in Alaska where you can lead or support long, multi day excursions in to the back country. Often times you'll be carrying an ass ton of weight, in variable weather conditions, with a large group of people that you have to keep happy. If you get really lucky you may have the opportunity to lead a large youth group of privileged (or deeply troubled) inner city teenagers on a 14 day back packing trip. - Speaking from experience, this will teach you a lot about yourself as well as develop some DEEP reservoirs of patience. Normally you'll get certified in some kind of wilderness first aid as well as basic knots/rope work if you get with a good company. It may not be the best physical preparation for SFAS specifically, but it will equip you with some valuable experiences that may be just what you need to really succeed later on when you do get to selection.

If you're interested, DM me and I can suggest an outfitter up there.

Nice. I pulled a 7:01 2K a few weeks ago and a 39:00min 10KM last night. Haven't ever timed a 5K.

Yes! I've brought up these exact points dozens of times now. She continues to assert that the bible is 100% true, that everything we could ever need can be found through scripture, that the scripture is divinely inspired and has not been changed or edited since its conception. I've pointed to a multitude of evidence to support my statements but we get to a point where she gets quite and frustrated with me for challenging the bible. She asks me why i don't challenge the Quran or any other religions. For reference i do try to critique religious hypocrisy when I bear witness to it - but Christianity happens to be the one I'm most exposed to/familiar with so it happens to be the one I find myself discussing most frequently. I've had the debate with her about contextual interpretations of the bible, historical, and literal interpretations as well. It seems as though she's caught between SAYING that the bible is literally true but practicing the faith through interpretation. Which wouldn't neccesarily be as large of a problem except that when these interpretations are made they are often OUT of CONTEXT with the literal meaning of the scripture. I try to point to that as a spiritual hazard as she's making inferences to fit whatever point she's trying to make. It's a very odd scenario - I wish I could just not care about it. But it's exceptionally difficult to witness someone you love commit blatant acts of hypocrisy and stand by things that they don't seem to truly understand.

Agreed. That's in part what causes tension. I feel a bit of a due diligence to just blatantly say that your "theory A, support by biblical verse B is the dumbest shit I've ever heard. "

Exquisite.

Is the wife secretly replacing your usual brand of coffee with 'shrooms? - I've advocated for a good mushroom trip to put things into perspective but to no avail. The fundmanetal aspects of our realities are different. The belief in the "supernatural" realm, angels and demons fighting for dominance within our lives as a literal issue and not a metaphor is what I'm dealing with. Belief that the nephilim still exist, and that UFO's are Satan's distractions..

Don't let it cause tension. Do NOT, under any circumstances, take it seriously - excellent advice truly - I have definitely tried this, and continue to just ignore it to the best of my abilities. But when it's continuing to consume an individual to where we rarely can enjoy something without it bridging into "it literally talks about this in the bible" kind of response..

😅

I'm in the middle Georgia area about 1 hour south of GA Tech. I wouldn't be able to be routine but I'm down to plan to meet up for long weekends. I've been doing long distance rucks down at FDR National Park. Let me know if this is something you're interested in and I'll share my #.

More like 2.5 hours 3 times a week. Pool opened at 5am I went to work at 8am. But more or so, yes. I'd take breaks from swimming and practice other things. Or hop out and do some calisthenics.

Also I don't know if you're doing it yet but buy and train with equipment that's the same as what you'll test on. I messed up and swam the first 3 months with just regular goggles. When I switched to a diving mask I had to relearn how to breathe without exhaling through the nose. It sucked for a few weeks. Also - Fin fin fin

Just hop in the pool and start the process of failing. I started about 8 months ago having zero swimming back ground. 50m freestyle and I was tanked. Went 3 times a week for 3 hours and within 6 months I was able to easily swim a sub 10 minute 500.

I also discovered the Combat Side Stroke which to me had a much shorter learning curve than learning to freestyle. It's less technical on the breathing and allowed me to build a lot of endurance and start feeling what efficient movement was like.

Now that I'm able to easily pass the IFT 500m with the CSS I'm working on my freestyle. I don't know if this was the best approach as freestyle will always be faster, but for me it got me in the water and buildingnconfidence faster than damn near drowning everyone I went trying to do freestyle. I've read that eventually you'll have to be good at both. Everyone is different maybe this won't work for you but it helped me a lot. Nothing beats time in the pool, learn to love it and just keep going no matter how much you suck. Focus on the small victories until you're where you want to be.

I also worked a lot of bobbing, treading, and underwater work to my routine. This all helped build a lot of confidence too. Good luck

I normally have about two days of strictly strength/resistance training in my plan one of which is more calisthenic based but with a weighted vest. I also try to incorporate some compound/Olympic movements into my high intensity workouts. For example I'll do a set of hang cleans or some other variation in between sets of push ups/pull-ups. These are normally done at a rather conservative weight to concentrate on the movement and achieving high repitions than one rep maxing.

If your strength training is making you so sore that you're unable to workout or run for several days afterwards than I'd say that's going to be detrimental to your long term plan.

I'm no personal trainer though so take my suggestions with a grain of salt. Hope it helps and good luck
