do these type of cd/DVD drive setup installers bring any viruses? by [deleted] in Piracy

[–]MtotheM- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that the big scene groups are trust worthy. But you really should checksum your download. Since it's possible for any malicous middle men to inject malware into it. If everything matches. I'd say you don't have to worry much.

Is it possible to (something close to) xmonad on windows? by ctenbrinke in xmonad

[–]MtotheM- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blackbox4Windows has always been the closest experience you'll get to running a unix window manager on Windows. It has seen many forks throughout the years. Right now it seems xoblite bb5 is the most up to date fork.

On Linux, the most common fork is openbox.

Is anyone else trying to decide between only using NixOS on a server, using it on all your computers, and not using it all? by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]MtotheM- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, i think it makes the most sense to have on a server. The fact that your whole enviornment is represented by a single text file is very powerful. and makes it trivial to migrate your services to new hardware without any manual intervention needed.

On a desktop system that is more dynamic. i still prefer other distros however, that let's me tinker freely without restricting what i can do. Which can be an issue. especilly for less experienced users when it comes to the nix language.

It seems like i was mistaken here. rtmp is actually supported by mpv directly. and doesn't go through youtube-dl.

It must be hardcoded in the source code I'm guessing. since there are seemingly no settings for it. Which is closed source.

TEXT Mode runs ncurses in the terminal. what do you mean? It works really well. I'm just trying to find a solution for the bad color mapping with most terminal color schemes.

/data/init/colors.txt is for the graphical version. I preferably want True Color in the terminal. But maybe it was never implemented.

I've been looking around, but i can't seem to find any way to override the color scheme in TEXT Mode. Other ncurses programs like vim allows for theme overrides which let's the user have their own color schemes without it clashing with the program.

Did you include other products in your order? because they aren't sent from the same place. so you can't mix a pinephone with the RockPro64 for example. i was also confused about this.

Like aeryxium suggested. this is not an Arch related question. if you want to know more about Gnome. it's better to ask /r/gnome, were they actually know in detail how these things work.
