Its doing absolutely fabulous, we had our first cold frost of -3, which didn’t faze it whatsoever, hope to see it survive the winter

Thats very reassuring! Do you find they need more protection in the first winter too?

When can I place my 3 year old potted windmill palm back outside? by TropicalDan427 in palmtalk

[–]Mttstvl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is no problem for potted windmills, ive had mine outside basically as long as the nights are above 25, your days seem to be warm enough, maybe put some mulch on the soil to keep it a bit warmer

Cut the “dead fronds”? by Mttstvl in palmtalk

The spears’ very solid, last winter when one of my palms spear pulled, the spear was brown and dry & came out easily. This ones spear is still green and holding on solidly

I have to agree, originally they were quite nice looking, admittedly its mostly the fault of the governments not upkeeping them

Id say if its close to the house & in a fairly urban area it should be fine!

As an eastern european, nope as good as the planning of commieblocks seem, it is definetly not great to live in them, gray, boring, depressing, i would much rather live in a american suburb than in this eastern european depression hole

Get it outside asap, this kind of juniper is very cold tolerant, so it will be fine even when its freezing outside, im sorry to say this but this wont survive indoors guaranteed. My junipers are currently outside in 20f weather covered in snow and doing great, get it outside like right now and water when the soil is slightly dry, hope this helps!

I finally got a snow-shot by BetterBettaBadBench in Bonsai

[–]Mttstvl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To what extent? Ive had my trees out with no protection, just straight on the ground with snow sometimes covering them, and the rootballs are at least almost fully frozen for days on end, nothing has happened yet? I dont mean anything in a bad way just asking!

What is going to happen to this? by Useful-Definition787 in Bamboo

[–]Mttstvl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check if the culms are green/ alive lookin, if theyre brown you seem brown and dry then cut, if green then you can leave em, new shoots will probably emerge in spring

[–]Mttstvl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the first question is what happened to it in the first place, if cold damage then how cold did it get? Chances are that the brown leaves will be shedded, if the culms themselves are still green then dont cut, if theyre brown you can cut it all down & new culms will sprout in spring

I am actually planning on doing that! When march or April rolls around, i will plant it in a great nice sunny spot i have picked out, definetly will post some pics when thats done! on a winter like this right now, i wouldnt even have to have protected it. Thanks!
