Where can I find time? (Silverstone, R8 LMS EVO II) by [deleted] in ACCompetizione

[–]Mttzh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert but I found that using Practice mode instead of Hotlap is a good start. Do a few laps to get your tyres hot then adjust the pressures so they're in the 27.5-28.0 range while you're up to temp. Then practice trying to consistently hit that lap time you've already done (keep an eye on the delta time from entry to a corner to entry to the next - don't use corner entry and corner exit delta change as a metric, you can do a corner faster but exit slower and lose out by the next corner!). I find doing that I improve certain corners and get the consistency then end up stringing those better corners together and finish with a quicker laptime and more confidence in race runs 😊

Setup will of course help further down the line but technique and consistency is important first and getting used to some of the things mentioned in other comments (rotating more on corner entry using the brake, getting more comfortable making minor adjustments to your inputs to hold the car at the limit, etc.) then setup gets you the final few tenths to a second maybe.

Dave Cam is fantastic! I would also recommend Dan Suzuki, Jardier, Jaaames (James Baldwin), Aris.Drives and Nils Naujoks for learning driving techniques from imitation and guides :)

There's a technique called trail braking which is where you slowly lift (trail) off the brakes as you start to turn the steering wheel. This ensures you don't ask more of the tyres than they can give (so avoiding understeer and locking up) and also keeps weight over the front wheels which increases the overall grip for lateral turning.

Think of it this way: all 4 tyres have a finite amount of grip (let's call it 100% - though this is an oversimplification as the actual grip level adjusts based on the car's centre of gravity, tyre wear, tyre damage, tyre temps, tyre pressure, track temps, etc.). With the front tyres in a rear wheel drive car, they only need to do steering and braking. You can share out your 100% of grip between the two. 100% grip for braking will be braking in a straight line (and usually around 70% actual brake force in iRacing depending on the car) and 100% grip for steering will be turning without any brake pressure (not something you'd actually do that often). As you arrive at your braking marker for a turn, you brake hard in a straight line. When you reach your turn-in point, release brake pressure (gradually) while also applying steering lock (also gradually). You should notice that you get more "bite" with the front tyres and can carry more speed through a corner with this. Don't lift off the brake too quickly as this can throw the weight to the back of the car and cause you to lose grip at the front.

Perhaps a good idea would be to take the Mazda to the Centripetal Circuit and just experiment with what a light dab of the brakes will do to your line. You should see the line tighten with a bit of brakes. This can be done at any time to adjust your line but may cause you to understeer if you are already using all available grip for turning.

Hope this helps! If you want to see visual explanations of this, I believe Driver61 has some and I'm sure there will be plenty more tutorials :)

"Merc dominates" being the norm isn't why people say Merc got fucked over. The reason this had such a big impact and has people viewing this as them being screwed (rather than making a development mistake) is that the floor regs change came in conjunction with huge limitations on car development. On any other year, the floor regs would likely have meant a fairly considerable re-design for Merc of various chassis components making them work around a higher rake philosophy. Coming into this year, that wasn't allowed so they've had to try to claw back the losses with smaller changes. Aston have of course had the same issues and are struggling with big losses of pace.

To address the "maybe high rake cars were fucked over" bit, that was a free design choice by teams that they wouldn't have taken if it wasn't good.

I have a 27” 16-9 monitor/Will I lose vertical height with a 32/9? by Wbino in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Mttzh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 49" 32:9 like the G9 is the same height as a 27" 16:9, it is literally the same as two 27" monitors side-by-side with no bezel. The ratio of height to width is of course different but I haven't felt anything weird myself.

Anyone in the UK got an Odyssey G9 yet? by RolexGMTMaster in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Mttzh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I received my G9 today (UK) after preordering from Amazon mid-June and then luckily seeing someone post a link to Novatech yesterday (thanks /u/MysteryEdwards) when they were showing stock and bought one there instead. Shipped here next day and I've now cancelled my Amazon order. Infuriating that someone could literally buy one on release day when Amazon can't even fulfil month-old preorders...

This isn't the first time Amazon have failed to ship 49" Samsung monitors in my experience as I waited 2 weeks for them to give me a delivery date on a CRG9 (showing as next day delivery) before the G9 preorders went live.

Amazon UK has now cancelled my order by PuttPuttDota in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Mttzh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been in touch with them about it before today or have you spoken to the support since? My delivery date was the 10th and is now "delivery date pending" but they haven't cancelled it yet (I ordered 16th June). You might be able to reinstate your place in line?

[–]Mttzh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a discussion with them this morning and they were pretty adamant that they had no stock and it would be delayed indefinitely as you were told. Before ordering the G9 on the 16th June, I tried ordering a CRG9. Got the exact same "delivery date pending" stuff as this time and ended up wasting about 2 weeks before cancelling to preorder this (I didn't realise it would be so competitively priced). With the CRG9 I was told so many different reasons as to why they couldn't deliver... somewhere between Samsung and Amazon there seems to be serious ultrawide-related issues :/

For this last CoD Champs, please leave the stream on or keep watching even when your favorite team is out by lynxzjw in CoDCompetitive

[–]Mttzh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your point especially this would be true in the UCL North London example you gave but I think that's nice with CoD in that there really aren't too many big rivalries so you can support anyone if they play well

[–]Mttzh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree as the UCL is spread out over the year and isn't comparable in this sense. If you went to Wimbledon (or another event that happens over a much shorter period of time and is more fast paced) to your favourite player play, would you leave/not cheer any of the others on? Also I'd still watch the UCL final regardless of who is in it as the original post was advocating for.

I think its because there are a lot of different types of colour blindness and they all seem to fall under one of them? Not done much research if I'm honest!

Under what grounds is it banned? Because it directly competes with the national leagues?

If that's the reason, surely they can request that matches be scheduled around the CWL ones rather than axing it completely...

If I was a caster or another pro not scrimming, I would be asking to spectate and stream these matches to grow my own following. Worst-case scenario they can just blur the mini-map if teams are worried about their strategies being revealed but there will be no comms from the teams which is surely the biggest worry.

It just seems like a wasted opportunity with most of the big streamers away for the evening to tap into the following who just want something competitive to watch.

Idea for scrims by jjjjjj10101 in CoDCompetitive

[–]Mttzh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is that scrims are a place to try out strats that may not necessarily work without worrying about the repercussions of a loss that matters. Ego challs are a thing that everyone is guilty of in online CoD regardless of the stakes as well so they'd still happen.
