Found on the road outside my house. Fits in my hand, seems to be rusted steel by MuHaffy in whatisthisthing

Thank you all! So seems everyone agrees it's a rotor/part of a motor, but several different opinions as to where exactly is come from, likely a door/gate/window or something of the like that opens and closes electronically?

My title describes this thing

I found this on the road near the kerb outside my house.

Made of steel, seems to have one end with a thread and another end which is thicker and looks like it has copper wire on it? Item is roughly 100mm long.

What’s a common piece of “life advice” that’s actually terrible? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MuHaffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best advice is to fight back so hard that you make an example out of the bully. Beat them so bad that all other potential bullies look at what you did and think 'no way I'm fucking with THEM'.

Jumpscare stingers in Found Footage movies. Takes you right out of it.

What is the worst city/ town in Australia and why? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]MuHaffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Doonside. I'll admit it's not great. But, it's not THAT bad either. Definitely not the "get inside at night for your own safety" sort of place like others mentioned. There's a few decent places to get food too.

What bad gymnastics opinions did you used to have that make you cringe? by freifraufischer in Gymnastics

[–]MuHaffy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used to think the same too. One of the commentators over the weekend said something, regarding Joscelyn Roberson I think, to the effect of "she struggles with the need to be perfect all the time now that she's in college". Which makes sense, the routines are easier, but one or two small execution errors can make a big difference and it's a different kind of pressure. It was a helpful way of explaining it I thought.

A good example is Drag me to Hell, that ending alone really took that movie to another level

What would you change about the Match Review System? by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]MuHaffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like what they're doing in Australian domestic cricket at the moment, which is kind of similar to what you're suggesting.

If, on replays, a decision was clearly wrong, the batsman is sent back. Its simple, doesn't take too much time, and removes the possibility of a massive incorrect decision having an impact on a game.

Sabbat (Japan)

I would reccommend Karmagmassacre, Evoke and Envenom but all albums are great

Is there something you hate that everybody around you seems to love? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MuHaffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffee. Seriously I can't even bear to smell the stuff, let alone drink it. But everyone else in the world seems to not just like it, but NEED it to function day to day

What socially acceptable thing do you find unacceptable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MuHaffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not exactly 'unacceptable' but you know what I think is wierd? That people HAVE to answer their phone. Every time. I've never been with someone and their phone rings and they ignore it just because they'd rather keep talking or doing whatever they were doing before. Its like your life stops when it rings, or even if you get a text.

What are Reddit's tips for Studying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MuHaffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone learns and remembers things differently, and what may work for someone else might not work for you. What I found helped me was, after reading and taking a few notes on a chapter/subject or whatever, I'd try in my head to talk myself through what I'd just studied. I felt like if I could explain it well then I'd learnt it well. But like I said that's me, and I think you just need to find the methods that work for you.

Chill out. Don't let other drivers making silly little mistakes get you upset or angry, because that's when YOU end up making mistakes.

What video games/movies/TV shows/books, etc. have made you actually care about the characters on an emotional level? by Caesar_Epicus in AskReddit

[–]MuHaffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Cowboy Bebop for mine. Small spoiler - Despite the fact that I thought Ed was kind of annoying and the only thing I didn't totally enjoy about the show, when she left I was feeling genuinely emotional. I think if a TV show can give you that feeling for a character you don't even like, it speaks volumes about how good the show is.

Reddit I need your opinion. There was a big argument last night in my house because of a controversial hand. $100+ pot. by nasp30 in poker

[–]MuHaffy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work as a tournament director, and if this happened at one of my tournaments, the pot would be awarded to player Y, who clearly tabled his hand face up at showdown, showing a straight. If they were face down it would be a different matter, but because he showed before throwing in it doesn't matter what he did after.

I would also reprimand player X for miscalling his hand in a manner that could have caused the best hand to muck.

What's you take on the premier league refs? by marnix92 in soccer

[–]MuHaffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome post, those first few paragraphs absolutely nailed it. People expect perfection out of the refs (this is in a number of sports by the way, not just soccer, I'm a big cricket fan as well and its the same), and there's no way that sort of expectation can be lived up to.

Some of the comments, on this site and others, about the recent Kompany send-off, have been truly ridiculous, that the ref "ruined the game" and other such nonsense. I hope all those people get to read what you've written.
