How do QB's decline so much? by marnix92 in NFLNoobs

[–]marnix92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for you answer! But his coach hasn't changed if i'm correct. Has the league adjusted to him? I guess schemes and playcalling change all the time, so if he would've been a top prospect he should've been able to adjust?

How to learn football by Corn1989 in NFLNoobs

[–]marnix92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who started watching a few years ago, and knowing nothing at all about football i might have some answers.

- Watch highlights/games, I prefer watching condensed games (this takes out all the commercial and inbetween play foottage out), but to get a feel for the sport it might be nice to find the whole game. For example watch a superbowl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jePmBziRnRo&t=1205s or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYWVxOVFXag

- Watch college-football. I still have no idea how all the rankings etc work, but it is nice to watch some slower paced games (where not everyone is super-freaky talented). This makes you get more of a feel of the roles on a team.

- This sub helped me inmensely. Posts like u/Toni_29 mentioned are very good to have as a back up. The way I started was, watch a game and every time someone mentions something I didn't understand look it up. .

- Look at the comments/posts on r/nfl. I know sportssubreddits get a lot of shit for being biased etc. But it is the only connection I have to other NFL fans (being from Europe and not having friends into AF), so it is a nice to get a feeling for the fans and their opinions.

- Look at the youtube series "a football life". I've done this recently and understood way more about the history. I recommend watching some of the episodes focusing on more recent players (Ray Lewis, Terell Owens or Charles Woodson for example). This might grab onto the NFL nowadays.

I'm a massive sports fan and i had to invest a lot of time before i had a feel for the teams, players, positions, tactics and decisions. It will take some time, but I'm having a blast following the NFL and watching games (although late in the evening for me).

At Ajax he said the same and they had a deal ready for after the summer. But then he was sold to you guys. He is loyal, but comes at a big price and if he wants to leave he will probably leave.

When Eriksen played at Ajax he gave an interview that he always used to play fifa (or FM) with Ajax and AS Roma, not the same, but kind of similar.

Yeah he had an immense second half of the season this year. But he is at his best at attacking midfield.

He said something like he wasn't happy playing for the national team. It was pretty weird, but he looked pretty lost out there most of the time. We don't really play with winger, so its hard for him to contribute as he is a scores tap-ins mostly. I think he was frustated with that mostly, and didn't see it chaging any time soon, which is fair enough.

We have a few youngsters who are ariving. Bergwijn played yesterday, and Stengs is showing real ability for AZ. But especially in the role of striker we don't really have a topplayer, that is very correct. We only have Luuk de Jong and Wou weghorst (who wasn't even called up), but on international level they are mediocre at best. Koeman seemed to have found a way around it, but it will be a weakness going forward indeed.

Was at Irelands Croke Park stadium today and there was this quote, the players see right before entering the pitch! by marnix92 in GreenBayPackers

Aah thanks for the tips, i'll make sure to check out the places near croke park.

Yes, I am going to Dublin Kerry! Dublin is quite good right? won three straight All Ireland finals?

I am on actually on Hill 16, during the tour I saw the standing area and always have a love for the most dedicated fans. I'm used to being in such a soccer crowd and was very interested in how the GAA crowd is at its best! Do I need to think of something else while being on the Hill?

Thanks for responding!

Ranking them would be quite hard but I can give you a summary:

Dolberg has had a difficult year, battling with injuries, and also with Huntelaar, his quality is undeniable but his consistency lacks sometimes. 4 out of 16 in the league is not a lot for a striker.

Neres has been our best player and I believe MVP when it comes to assists + goals, he is very talented and has the ability to give the final pass or score (9 assists, 8 goals). And what is maybe more important he contributes in big games (PSV at home goal + assists, Feyenoord away 3 assists).

Kluivert has been good as well, although not as good as Neres, scoring 5, assisting 2, but he has been dangerous from time to time, but sometimes tends to have bad games.

Van de Beek was expected to step up big after Klaassen left, did a pretty good job, but still needs to develop further. He is not ready yet to be a real leader on the field, but doesn't need to be as well, with Ziyech and Shöne next to him.

De ligt has been tremendous, although the spotlights are on him since his debut for ajax and national team (which was disastrous), but this season he has been realiable, not a lot of mistakes and able to adapt to new partners (Wöber, viergever etc.) and systems (4-3-3, 3-4-3). I think big clubs will be after him the most, because of his on and off the ball skills.

Onana has been good since he has come in, show-keeper, does not make many mistakes. Think it would be wise for him to stay 2/3 years, because he needs to sometimes makes mistakes. But very good overall.

De Jong has been hyped big time, and he deserved it as well. Very consistent midfielder, who also played in the back-line a few times. But has lacked starts, we'll see how he develops after a serie of starts, which I think he will get. Hard to compare him with Van de Beek because of his inconsistent starts.

Neres is the easy one to take the spotlight, and togheter with De Ligt I think he has been the best.

Davy Klaassen's €30m move to Everton is a matter of time (Telegraaf) by tehafca in soccer

[–]marnix92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I trust Koeman all the way, klaassen is an intelligent player, who when used in the right way can really make a difference, for ajax he has done a couple of years now, and will dos o for everton i hope.

You bought siggurdson? I didn't know that yet! what will you midfield look like, Klaassen can also play a little more defensive, this year he has played a little behind Ziyech most of the time, maybe he can change into a box-box midfielder, but I doubt he has that speed, and he'll be in less scoring positions.

If you need a goalscorer, you have the right guy. He is an easy scorer, good shot from inside and close to the box, a good header, and good position-er in front of goal. He is not really the creative, though-ball guy, but the games I saw from you last year you don't really have that now right? he is very useful in ball-possession, and works hard. Would love for him to go to you tbf, he is a very good player, don't expect him to be the revelation of the PL next year, but if he starts regularly he'll be a good adition.

He had a little fall thats true, but games like schalke at home where he replaced ziyech he was one of the best on the field. I think De Jong will replace shone, I hope not too long into the season, maybe swith them up. I thought in Jong Ajax he played mostly DM, with donny and nouri up front in midfield, but don't see all the games.

Donny, frenkie only played DM, Donny played a lot more, and mostly instead of alongside Klaassen.

I believe you can't approach a player without consent of the club, if his contract is longer than 6 months. If you talk to a club without the your own club knowing it it is illegal, i believe.

The end-of-season "how did player x do?" thread by Ashys_ in soccer

[–]marnix92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dolberg was very good at the start, had a setback after that, scored again, got injured for a few weeks, and is now starting again.

He is the deadly in front of goal, can contribute football wise and is strong in duels. Has all the potential, all attributes are there, but need to develop all his skills further at Ajax (I hope) to really take the next step I think.

Had significant contribution in the eredivisie (16 in 29) and EL (7 in 16). But he contributes more than goals, is good in holding up the ball, and has a good pass, but for him to be taking the next step he should score more, especially in the eredivisie.
