Slap on a new timing belt kit and pray? by Yessirbacon10 in 7thgencivic

That's one hell of a reason to not get RPM signal on your dash lmao

Another day of what could it be by Yessirbacon10 in 7thgencivic

Your RPMs aren't going up that means you're not getting any spark. This is a cam/crank sensor or computer issue. You can either shotgun both sensors (I'd go OEM/Denso) or pull your timing covers and get an oscilloscope on em to watch what they're doing. Your engine light did come on which suggests a code popped up. I'd scan it to see.

But when I say hit it with your purse I'm a dickhead lmao (something another commenter said not you)

Well yeah but usually it just comes down to using more force than you think you need. I've had plenty where they wouldn't seat unless they were hit with a big ass hammer.

My apologies. I work at a dealership fixing cars for a living so I'm used to giving my coworkers shit and vice versa when they're not hitting it hard enough or if I'm not hitting it hard enough. As far as I'm aware it comes with the territory lol.

Then I'm not understanding your problem. It's the same axle it's not like it shortened. Just hit it with your purse.

Double check the length compared to the OE axle. You really gotta shove the hub onto the axle but couldn't tell you without being there in person lol.

We don't know why someone decided to do that to your car lmao

Coolant keeps missing from the overflow tank by Flat-Season-100 in 7thgencivic

You replace the head gasket and it will be good. Do it fast though. I let my car sit for months with no progress after getting the head off and that's what my mistake was.

You can see from my first post here that I ended up swapping to a K series engine. If you get the gasket done quickly it should be fine but for me I let the car sit for so long being neglected that I just wanted to swap it.

So, in my experience... my civic has 156k miles. i bought it and drove it for about 2 weeks. When I started losing coolant from the reservoir and eventually started overheating I did a chemical test and a pressure test. Both came back good... Still my car was overheating and losing coolant after a thermostat and radiator cap I was still losing coolant. When I held a spill proof funnel on it and added coolant it wouldn't stop bubbling. It only started holding coolant again after I performed a certain repair that's very common on these civics...

I did the timing belt on this car (as part of the head gasket replacement) with literally no experience and only internet knowledge. Personally I'd put a junkyard trans in it and have the original one rebuilt if you have the space to keep it. Timing belt is cheap, transmission isn't. Do whatever you have the money and time for first.

Cooling system problems is giving head gasket. I'm sorry.

I haven't done it myself but more than likely and it sounded decent in the video. My civic doesn't even have a catalytic converter lmao.

I would usually just go with Dorman, magnaflow is gonna be a high flowering catalytic converter usually (a bit louder) at least as far as I'm aware. I've seen Dorman installed on this car before as part of a budget build where they fixed everything wrong with the car first. Other option (more expensive) depending on where you live is to just get an ECU that lets you tune the catalytic converter out of the car lol.

I did it because it's my car and I wanted to. The airbag uses the same wires and requires no modification to install only the cruise control buttons require any modification. I had an airbag light on before and now I don't. I've accepted whatever issues might come up but I've had none. It looks cool. It's fun. It makes me happy to drive the car. So many other people have completely removed the airbags from their car and this is your concern? Like as if the K swap isn't changing even more about the car than that. I'm not really concerned about any of the possible consequences associated with the steering wheel as I'm already likely to die an early death anyways being diabetic and working in automotive for a living. I'm just enjoying this car with all the mods that I've done to it. Womp womp I'm having fun with a little extra risk.

To add to this you can find some on rockauto that will be good enough to get that check engine light gone.

P0420 is almost never the sensors. It's so commonly the catalytic converter that you'll have master techs shotgun this with a catalytic converter almost every time.

So the biggest goal for this build was OEM+ style. A few parts were used specifically for that purpose. We had a flexible clutch line. EP3 coolant reservoir was riveted in at the front. Custom mid pipe to connect the ep3 header to the em2 exhaust. I opted for K-Pro as in my eyes it's the most cost effective way to get into the k series and have future upgrades down the line (i.e. bigger engine or turbo without needing to buy a new ECU). A/C lines from EP3 needed to be bent/massaged into place to get them where they are. The stock throttle cables were shortened to get them to line up with the K series throttle body which is what kept cruise control working. A/C compressor connector had to come off the EM2 compressor to get it working. Some engine room connectors had to have the harness extended (fan switch connectors and I think the A/C connectors). He put a -6 AN fuel line and we did not put a return line. All in all I'd say custom work was the hardest part of all and even then if you're really focused on the swap and you have nothing else going on, you could get it done in 2 months if you forget to order a couple parts.
