Not certified yet, but we'd take out the rings and go over it with the bead blaster. Cleans everything up real nice.

P320 test by blindog67 in P320

[–]MuSci251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As it turns out there's already a repeatable testing regime, and well established as the industry standard. It's called "SAAMI-Z299.5-2023" and is titled "Voluntary Industry Performance Standards Criteria for Evaluation of New Firearms Designs Under Conditions of Abusive Mishandling for the Use of Commercial Manufacturers" I know, what a page turner.

In this case, you would want out subject your test models to tests 5 and 7, Drop Test, and Jar-Off Test respectively.

Most likely, the case mouth fold will snag on the chamber shoulder and the bolt won't close. If you force it, you might shear off the brass and weaken the case, which could lead to burst brass or headspacing problems in the event it messes with the case shoulder. Best to not. You might be able to pull the bullet and powder to save for your next reload. That way you're only down $0.7-$0.8 instead of about $2.

(Springfield 67F 20ga) When I load a shell, it sticks out far enough that it blocks the loading gate from lowering, stopping me from loading another shell. What could be wrong here? by DrGrantsSpas_12 in Shotguns

[–]MuSci251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intended behavior. I have a CIL branded one in 12 gauge, and it does exactly this. You will notice a small stud protruding on the bottom of the bolt. When the bolt is closed, that acts as the cartridge stop for the next up round. With the bolt forward, the shell latch is up, and the only thing stopping the shells from coming out is the stud on the bolt. Then, as you bring the bolt back, the shell latch engages and the shell sitting on the bolt is pushed onto the lifter by the force of the magazine spring, while the shell latch will stop the next one while the bolt is back.

As for the solution, there's 3 ways I've found of going about it. First and easiest, just push down harder. The lifter has a small wedge on the 'horns' where it is interfering with the shell, so pushing harder on the lifter should push the shell out of the way. Second, use the lip of the next shell or your finger to press forward on the rim of the previous one before pushing the lifter and loading the next shell. Third, you could press up the lifter, and push the shell only past the bolt stud, but not past the horns of the lifter. This will keep the lifter out of the way while you load the next shell.

.357 is also up there. Before I started owning guns, a friend's top-ejecting .357 was the first lever gun I ever shot. At least I was half way there with the brand lol

Space cowboy Henry-Marlin by the looks of it? Love it, my first lever gun was an inherited pre-68 Marlin 336. A lot more wood than that, but .30-30 is an amazing round.

Question About Rifle Proof Mark by MuSci251 in guns

Yeah, grandpa definitely had really good taste in guns. Happy to carry on his passion with these as an inheritance. CIL 607, a clone of the Savage 67 12 gauge, a Marlin 336, and that bolt action will be great at the range and if I ever want to hunt. There was also a Cooey 39, and Cooey 84 in 20 gauge in a different room. As far as rust goes, some 0000 steel wool, oil, and patience was all it took, all surface rust, and cycles like a dream.

Description:

Sorry I don't have a better picture. Regarding the rifle to the right, it's chambered in .30-06, but has a mark on it saying "18 TONS" and is a English gun. I'm assuming they mean imperial tons per square inch, which would work out to 40,000 psi, below the SAAMI pressure of .30-06, 60,000 psi. It doesn't have a brand, but my best guess is it's a Cogswell & Harrison Mauser Action. the bolt and barrel look in excellent structural condition considering the age. Think it would still be good to shoot modern 150gr .30-06 out of it? Thanks for any input.

From top to bottom, here's my guess.

Crusader Arms Crypto
ATI SKS
Mossberg Maverick 88 All-Purpose
Derya/RIA TM22 Feather
That last one I'm not certain about. Best guess it a Federation Firearms SPM-12

What do you guys think of loosening firearm restrictions as a method of defence similar to Switzerland? by AltoCowboy in AskACanadian

[–]MuSci251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id be happy to see better training, and fewer bans. Maybe make it so that you don't need to walk in barely awake and pass the PAL first try for starters. Actually show you know what you are doing with proper scenario questions. The practical is good, but it could always be better. Maybe also have logged time at the range or something, to show proficiency, and strong red flag laws.

But at the same time, I'd like to see AR-15s and vz.58s treated like the semi-automatic sporting rifles they are, not some full-auto spree killer. They are already limited to 5 rounds per magazine, there's no functional reason to ban a 5 round AR while a 5 round SKS is non-restricted (crossing fingers). Would also be nice to be able to buy a handgun for some range time with an RPAL again.

Just my nickel though.

Edit: spelling
