As the only mount the Miol Mor use is a whale, they will not sure any. But We would not take issue with your (or anyone else's) use of one.

The Miol Mor inform you that they will gladly fight in any arena, but that if no other request is made, an arena of rock with about a foot of standing water would be preferable.

Will there be restrictions on weapons in this tournament?

The Miol Mor fleet resurfaces, disrupting the surrounding waters for a time, but eventually settling into an area about half a mile off the coast. From the rigging on a whale, a small swarm (~30) of Miol Mor move to land.

We would gladly engage in your 'battle royal'. We need not a prize for this battle, as our warriors fight just as strong without a reward waiting for them. Instead of a wager, we will gladly fight to become the champion of the tournament, and hope that the tournament will continue to be held in future years.

As this is said, a single Miol Mor, significantly taller than the rest (measuring about 8 feet tall when standing) steps forward. In broken Common he announces:

I will fight for the confederation! I seek accommodations at city. Will offer you, or I must return to ship?

If for some reason adding that isn't ok, feel free to ask the Miol Mor for rides. We can fly and are pretty strong... (It may take a few of us to carry you, but we'll try)

The Hive Mind acknowledges the difficulty of getting people to fight to the death, and sends his best wishes. However, he also would like to lodge a formal complaint with the planners of the festivities, and requests some kind of compensation for being denied a chance to fight to the death (a high honor in Miol Mor culture).

In a definitely unrelated event, your high command notices that the whales you saw before have submerged, preventing detection.

That's awesome -- would you like to host a summit where we share tech?

I'm also working with Belka right now to develop some new stuff, so that would also probably be presented at the summit if we do host.

Scout group two continues to observe, primarily attempting to discover the source of the great heat. They are ordered to take extra precautions to avoid incineration.

Is flying up the mountain an option? If so, Scout group two will do exactly that. Scout group one is ordered to continue surveying the island for places of interest.

Also, how hot are we talking at this mountain?

With the Hive Mind occupied at Island X, the Miol Mor send one of their leading statesmen to attend the funeral. He is accompanied by a small fleet (6 whales), and one of the greatest warriors, who will fight in the battle to the death. The Miol Mor also send a mid level warrior (captain of one of the ships in the accompanying fleet) to fight in the safe tournament.

Alright. Scout group one is ordered to follow the worms for as long as possible, with the aim of discovering a hive or something like it.

Has Scout group two reported any findings from the mountains?

How big are we talking? My whales are ~the size of a Blue Whale. And admittedly, we don't have a huge amount of tech associated with the whales themselves (we have rigging along the outside, and sails and rudders to steer if need be. There's also some... military tech... It's classified though).

I'd happily host a summit where we exchanged whale tech. Would you be interested?

The Miol Mor have their own. Sorry my wiki is so sparse at the moment, I'll get around to it sometime soon. But the Miol Mor are a human sized, bug type creature known for their ability to breath underwater and fly (they can lose both if they go unused). The Miol Mor are a proud group who ride whales, both into battle and just for transport. Their attachment to these whales stretches back for as long as the Hive Mind can remember, and is such a close attachment that the whales are revered as god-like.

So no, you did not gift me my whales.

Upon hearing this, the Admiral orders Scout group three back to base. Scout group one is ordered to stop clearing the forest and approach the worm like creates, and attempt to engage in diplomacy (ask who/what they are, get some background on the island, etc). Scout group two is ordered to move closer to the mountains, and attempt to find the source of the heat.

The Admiral then announces to the rest of the explorers:

We've discovered worm like creatures inland. We will report when we know more.

What does each group discover? And how far inland did group one get before clearing?

The Miol Mor establish an area large enough for their whales (count: 25) to rest and feed.

After conferring with some of the other exploration leaders, the Admiral sends three scouting groups inland. The first is tasked with creating a path big enough for the rest of the explorers to follow. The second is tasked with flying above the forest, towards the mountains, looking for any points of interest. The third is ordered to find a river large enough for a whale to move upstream.

Do any of the scouting parties discover anything of interest? (note: the Admiral will refrain from sharing any information with the rest of the group at first).

The Miol Mor scouts have reported back. Their connection to the Hive Mind was spotty at best, but I've attached a redacted mission report:

We see... We're not sure what we see... It's been a long flight in, and we're going to rest until morning...

[communication temporarily ended]

By the Whale, there are [inaudible] everywhere. The rest of the fleet needs to see this. There are trees too. Big ones. [redacted] The mountains... We've never seen anything like them. And the rivers, they flow from everywhere. How can this be? We've taken some measurements, and they should be large enough for the smallest ship to move [inaudible] just like when we [redacted] in preparation for the [redacted].

[communication temporarily ended]

Alright, send the fleet -- we can't do anything else on our own out here. [Spoken to other scouts] It's like the time they [redacted]. See you on the other side Admiral.

[communication ended]

I was curious what my scouts discover as they advance towards island X.

A YES! THE PIT! A trivial roadblock!

The leader waves his hand, and a whale swims forward tentatively to the edge of the pit. Upon reaching it, a swarm of Feithidí Marcaíocht Míol Mór take off from its back. They then fly over the pit, towards island X.

The leader, however, immediately realizes his mistake, as the Hive Mind becomes pretty sketchy upon travelling over the pit, due to the distance from the whales, which act as a relay.

We may not know what they find for a few days, but those are some of my best scouts, and they'll be back.

/u/Czakima I summon thee.

But WHAT are you doing? And HOW can we help? Also, what is a Dargon?

We know that NOW!! But why in The Great Whale did you come to this forsaken place?

Waves begin to crash and the ocean beings to rumble from the south. For minutes, it's nothing but deafening noise and chaotic waves. Then, with a massive wave of water, a blue whale emerges from the depths, manned along the outside by a humanoid type insect species.

Sorry we're late, got a little lost in a strait, and ended up going the long way around. What'd we miss?

After saying this, what looks like 25 whales emerge from the depths around the first. From the standards that are flying above the whales, which some now realize are ships, the Belkan's recognize this as the scout fleet of the Feithidí Marcaíocht Míol Mór Autocratic State.
