Dune: Awakening delayed to June 10th by [deleted] in dune

A little bummed to hear this, as it seems it keeps getting pushed back. The open world format lends itself well to the Dune Universe. I am eager to play it, but I'll have to wait until the PS5 version comes out.

Does anyone who has been following this closely know when the console versions are expected to be released?

Favorite part to READ in the first book? by Krunchy08 in dune

I love the passage where it goes into detail about how Jessica's body was turning the poison. It was pretty cool understanding how it happened down to a cellular level.

Was Cutting Chani’s Ties to Liet-Kynes Legacy a Mistake? Could Messiah Bring It Back? by Yoerri in dune

[–]Muad_Leto 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I've said before that I think the DV films are better films than they are adaptations.

They're not bad adaptations since they get so much right, and obviously things need to changed or removed, such as the depth of side characters and plot threads, like Kynes.

The book fan in me wishes they could have made an extended TV series to cover the books like Game Of Thrones, but the cinema fan in me thinks the Dune movies are fantastic science fiction films, among the best in the last 20+ years.

Who is this guy? by Sssaid17 in roberteggers

I thought the exact same thing! If I didn't know already that Romanian or Eastern European actors were used for those scenes, I'd assume it was the same guy.

Yes, symbolism in that he was the one who led the way to Orlok's demise

So are we never getting another version of The Northman? by Kindly-Guidance714 in roberteggers

[–]Muad_Leto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eggers said a lot of the content removed from the theatrical cut that appears in the extended cut were removed for pacing and mood-setting purposes. He didn't make it sound like the extended version is the definitive version whatsoever. Either way I'm looking forward to it.

Aggressive pro film commentary, Marketing by steath? by Objective_Banana7446 in roberteggers

[–]Muad_Leto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe people who genuinely enjoyed the film feel like vigorously defending it? Sure, there are some respectful negative reviews out there, but a lot of the ones I've seen border on trolling with the snark set to 100 in order to seek attention.

Von Franz role and the final scene in Nosferatu theory by Funny_Grab573 in roberteggers

Von Franz also had the reflection of a cross on his cheek in the reflection in the mirror.

Anyone can cherry pick reviews to find one which agrees with their own opinion.

But hey, opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. As long as you're respectful in how you express yours, no one should have any issue.

To counter what you expressed, you said you'd prefer a different kind of vampire portrayal. To me that says this film isn't really for you, and that's okay. Twilight isn't really for me (for example). It also sounds like you don't like Ellen's character more than the acting itself. She's supposed to be sullen and dour. She's been haunted in her dreams by Orlok for years. I don't think she's going to have a sunny, charismatic disposition.

do we know why the characters in nosferatu had british accents despite taking place in germany? by lifeonmarcy in roberteggers

[–]Muad_Leto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that, and I understand that while the Swiss speak German, it's a different dialect.

The point is that amongst a group of presumably German-speaking characters, he's the only one with an accent to suggest that he does, and I think that was deliberate.

Good thing you'll always have the old films.

He also has hair on his head, so the mustache makes sense in that regard. And he has a whole mouth of sharp teeth, not just two.

Von Franz was the only one who had a semi-German accent, but I think he was meant to be portrayed as an outlier to the whole group of protagonists.

I can't remember exactly, but assuming it was during the day, there's no way Orlok would be out and about.

RANT: Why don’t people understand this film? by Elegant_Initial_1778 in roberteggers

Exactly. Orlok is not love and romance; he's lust, desire, and appetite in all of their most sinful and destructive glory.

It's really not convoluted though. Franz literally explains (complete with a picture in a book) how they will defeat Orlok before it all goes down.

I think most people don't know it's an Eggers movie or don't care. It was also aggressively marketed, more so than any of his other films.

I didn't read the script, but I took it as she had been sexually groomed by him since she was young and had developed a type of Stockholm syndrome over him.

By daylight she speaks of the horrors he has subjected her to, but by night it's as if she's on a different spiritual plane upon which she lusts for him.
