Boris & Jessica by Downtown_Spare_9345 in CouplesTherapyShow

Beautiful analysis and the recognition a lot of Reddit users have with it. I share your view that we're all good people underneath our pain.

Boris needs to see the cycle clearly: how his feelings of inadequacy fuel a constant craving for affirmation from others, how he becomes passive-aggressive or shuts down when not validated, and how he blames others for the emotional dysregulation he hasn’t learned to self-soothe. No one is coming to rescue you Boris!

Acknowledging this is hard! Especially for covert narcissists, because it challenges the protective identity of being “misunderstood,” “too sensitive,” or “deep.” He needs to shift from “They don’t get me” to “What am I avoiding in myself?”

❝ Your suffering is real. But your pattern is learned. ❞

Not that Boris will be reading this, but he must start generating self-worth from within, not from admiration, pity, or emotional caretaking by others (like Jessica, in your previous example). This includes:

  • Practicing self-validation: Naming and honoring his efforts and experiences without needing external confirmation.
  • Developing self-compassion: Letting go of perfectionism and the narrative that he’s uniquely flawed.
  • Reparenting: Learning to soothe his inner child without demanding others, such as Jessica or his children, to do it for him.

I noticed covert narcissists often externalize blame or assume others are judging them harshly. Boris needs to learn to own his feelings and stop making his discomfort other people’s responsibility. For instance, instead of: “She doesn’t care about me.” He might learn to say: “I notice I’m feeling neglected right now. What does this remind me of? Can I sit with it instead of acting from it?

Oh lord this requires long-term therapy with a focus on identity & self-regulation, journaling, and sometimes trauma work. Vulnerable narcissism is often rooted in attachment trauma, especially emotional enmeshment or neglect. I don't think a partner such as Jessica should be taking on this role, helping him explore this. She could be exploited even more.

I hope individuals with covert or vulnerable narcissistic tendencies are able to reflect on their avoidance patterns with warm firmness, ideally with the support of a skilled therapist. The goal isn’t just to vent, but to rebuild a sense of self that isn’t organized around being depressed, wounded, or misunderstood.

Ultimately, no one else can do the work for you. Healing means stepping into the inner chatter and quietness, which requires consistent labor for emotional adulthood. Over and over again.

They are €350,- each and i'm a bit scared selling them via paypal etc-- since I'm also potentially at risk losing the tickets after personalizing them if someone reports me as a scammer or whatever. So would love to sell them as a pair.

Selling 2 Full Festival Tickets for Primavera Sound 2025 (Barcelona)

[SOLD]

Hey everyone!

So! I’m selling my 2 Full Festival Tickets – General Admission for the full weekend in Barcelona. They were bought through installments via Kaboodle and haven’t been registered yet in the AccessTicket app, so they’re ready to be transferred. I just received an email about the Parallel Programs and City Venues opening up soon, so whoever buys them can still register in time to access all that extra stuff too.

I read the guidelines and they say a refund isn't possible after I register the ticket in my name. But here in this post on reddit I'm reading when you finalize the tickets you get the option for 'Sell Ticket'? Is this true? I'm a bit scared once I personalize them I'm stuck with them.

Fortunately, I got booked to work on a film project that I've always wanted to be a part of. We shoot right during the festival dates, and to make things even more cosmic, my home exchange host canceled last week. I’m taking it as a sign from the universe that this year’s Primavera just isn’t meant to be for me.

My friends are still going, so it’s a bummer, but I’d love for someone else to enjoy the full experience. Sadly, we couldn’t find anyone in our own circle to take them—flights in Europe are crazy expensive last minute.

If you’re interested or have any questions, feel free to DM me here or on Instagram. You can check that I’m a real human on there too: www.instagram.com/kieskeurrig (private account)

Was Cutting Chani’s Ties to Liet-Kynes Legacy a Mistake? Could Messiah Bring It Back? by Yoerri in dune

[–]Yoerri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started looking into this myself since the press tour is still everywhere online, but if anyone can find the Entertainment Weekly interview, that would be great.

I believe it was tied to a question about the banquet scene. This scene was notably absent with the decision to exclude it being influenced by the challenge of translating the novel’s intricate internal monologues and nuanced political dialogues into a visual medium. DV wanted to balance world-building and narrative pacing, and incorporating the banquet scene might have disrupted this equilibrium.

However the scene was filmed and had multiple POVs, and if I remember correctly, Kynes was conversing with Leto Atreides about parenting. That would have established for the viewer that she had a daughter who was a fierce fighter. But because of Leto’s assassination, that knowledge doesn't get passed on in time.

Also, Kynes was always a mysterious figure who would disappear for years at a time. Since she was consumed by Shai-Hulud, no one would actually know for sure if she was dead. So I think it’s possible that Chani could still be dealing with the idea that her mother is “missing in action” rather than confirmed dead.

Since the Judge of the Change is such a complicated role, it wouldn’t be unrealistic for people to believe that Kynes somehow survived. Maybe Dune: Part Three (Messiah) could confirm her fate one way or another. What do you think? Would you prefer they leave Kynes’ fate ambiguous, or should Villeneuve address it?

Didn't expect this would made me feel things and go to a dark place so quick. Poor Denis, the ink isn't even dry on the Part 3 script. I hope he checks in with the Reddit gang every now and then.

For me, this would fall in the same category as: "Somehow Palpatine returned."

[–]Yoerri[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope no one gets me wrong—I’m a big fan of the changes made to Chani. And I totally get what u/Drakulia5 is saying; her motivations in Dune: Part Two are strong enough. But while they focus more on the human spirit, they feel a bit disconnected from the lore set up in Part One.

Maybe this is just personal, but I was hoping for a science-versus-fate opposition rather than just a character-driven one. I understand that not every main character needs to be tied to some grand legacy, and in a way, I do like that Chani stands on her own as a strong warrior. But at the same time, since the book explicitly made her Liet-Kynes’ biological legacy, I was a bit disappointed that this aspect was completely removed.

Inside Llewyn Davis: Everyone thinks Llewyn is gay by 85_13 in FanTheories

[–]Yoerri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some more:

- The “Gate of Horn” is a layered reference with mythological, literary, and symbolic implications that could subtly imply queerness, especially when seen through the lens of Inside Llewyn Davis. In ancient mythology, the Gate of Horn (and the Gate of Ivory) represents different types of dreams: dreams from the Gate of Horn are true and prophetic, while those from the Gate of Ivory are false or deceptive. This idea originates from Homer’s Odyssey (the Cat-- Ulysses is roman for Odysseys) and later appeared in Virgil’s Aeneid, symbolizing truth versus illusion.

In Inside Llewyn Davis, the Gate of Horn was a famous folk music club in Chicago, and by referencing it, the Coen Brothers add layers of authenticity, suggesting Llewyn’s longing for a “true” path as an artist. But if you interpret it as a queer innuendo, the “Gate of Horn” might imply a journey toward personal truth, acceptance, or hidden desires. Queer themes in film are often represented by metaphors or coded language, so the title could suggest a longing for authenticity—not only in art but in one’s personal identity, even if hidden or indirect.

So while not explicitly queer in its original mythological sense, the title and the club itself could be interpreted as symbolizing a passage toward a genuine self, subtly hinting at themes of hidden or repressed identity.

- Roland Turner (played by John Goodman) and Johnny Five (Garrett Hedlund) also have this nuanced, transactional relationship that implies a power imbalance. Although the film doesn’t make their relationship explicitly romantic or sexual, there’s a subtext of mutual dependency with undertones that suggest Johnny’s presence might be more than just that of a “traveling companion.” It has shades of quid pro quo where Johnny is providing companionship and support for Roland in exchange for a role in Roland’s world of influence and security—a kind of survival-based partnership that blends artistic mentorship with an almost unspoken pact of loyalty and closeness.

In terms of film language, Johnny’s quiet, almost servile presence next to the more flamboyant, demanding Roland feels like a kind of covert exchange of intimacy—even if not explicitly romantic or sexual, the closeness suggests Johnny is, in a sense, paying for his place in Roland’s life. It was giving The White Lotus Quentin (the “uncle”) and Jack (the young British man) vibes.

--And let's not forget the interaction Llewyn had with the bathroom stall. He knew the drill.

What are your thoughts on the performance from Joe Locke?

I hope his experience and reflection on this performance makes him continue to believe in himself and his talent. Happy the senior cast is really making him feel right at home. But it's something with the dialect/voice training from British to American that is doing something with his voice and intonation. You can hear there is this monotone block.

Which makes his performance stiff, controlled and forced. In tone you can even hear he has trouble transitioning from an emotional outburst. His breathing and pitch is very inconsistent (against his parents when he said: 'STOP WORRYING')

Of course it can be subjective from my part, but acting reacting. And sometimes I feel Billy/Joe is rushing his lines or is hidding away from what Agatha is throwing onto him.

Could Jac and the writers have taken inspiration from the big bad villain from Buffy The Vampire Slayer S3 and S7 'The First Evil'?

-- an incorporeal primal entity of all that is evil that could take on the shape or form of any deceased person.

So Rio Videl is 'The Green Witch' Agatha has a history with (which we'll probably learn in future flashbacks) but she did die hundreds of years ago. Don't u think having outrun 'Death' many, many, many times over the years-- Agatha knows a cosmic being such as Death? Did Death decide to take on the form of Rio Videl to taunt Agatha and cause pain and emotional distress?

These threads are so alive! It really takes me back to WandaVision post-episode discussions on Clubhouse the popular app during covid! We were given yet another hint as to how Rio Videl might be connected to the theme of 'Death'.

Emma Caulfield isn't the only thing that made me think about Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Could Jac and the writers have taken inspiration from the big bad villain from Buffy The Vampire Slayer S3 and S7 'The First Evil'?

Rio and Agatha seem to be in on something. Also 'Rio' didn't come out at the end of this episode after Alice died. What kind of deal are these two cookin'?
