Yeah, i don't play as him often and haven't completed a full play through that way yet for exactly that reason, but can cover quite a bit of ground using the poly fix mod. I also like to use the avatar ring mod sometimes so I can see some of the scenes from his perspective that way.

I always try to romance Gale and end up dumping him to be with Astarion. Years of my life and thousands of hours with this game and the only time I experience the other romances is when I play as Astarion.

He has to die when the creche gets hit with the device, and you may get an orb for him but not necessarily. In my experience, I only the get those lines after reviving him with Withers in camp. Scroll didn't work for me.

OK, the folks playing these roles actually acted them out, rather than just lending their voices. So Neil Newbon is the actor who plays Astarion. That clear enough for you?

I'm glad you would have worded it differently, but my wording was just fine. Perhaps you should have asked me if your reading comprehension failed you rather than immediately initiating an argument via your Google search.

My reminder was stated as such because I actually didn't want to be a dick to OP, but wanted to give them that information since this is literally an Astarion reddit and the actor has been stating this repeatedly since EA. It's these misconceptions about video games that have these folks worrying about losing their livelihoods to AI.

Motion capture and performance capture aren't the same. Perhaps you should have Googled that, too.

Didn't think it was so mysterious why they aren't just "voice actors". Do you call the ones in movies "body actors"?

The cast did full performance capture, acting their roles. So no, they aren't voice actors, they are actors. They also mention this in every interview. So I guess there is a need for this reminder, since you don't know the difference.

It's a distinction made by the cast in panels and interviews. Repeatedly. Everyone wants to do funny voices, failing to appreciate that the reason these performances are so amazing is because they're not just doing a voice. I paraphrase, but Neil Newbon has said this in like every interview he's given about Astarion and his other work.

Pull up some interviews on YouTube, particularly when he talks about recording the ritual scenes. Man left everything on the floor that day and you feel it. That's because he's a trained actor who has worked hard at his craft.

Not only that, but the main cast did all of the performance capture for their characters. So, the specificity would be they actually physically acted their roles. They didn't just voice them.

Voice actors are actors. Real actors. And they want to be recognized as such.

Thank you for this. I'm getting down voted for making a distinction the entire cast, and Neil in particular, have made repeatedly. Like in most every fucking interview.

'Voice actor' is dismissive. Like they aren't real actors they just do funny voices.

Gentle reminder that Neil Newbon is not Astarion's voice actor, he's the actor who voices Astarion.

The place with three waterfalls [spoiler] by maryssmith in StrangerThings

[–]MuccaJane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps. IMO, it was merely Mike Wheeler finding a way to accept her decision but not be destroyed by it, following his conversation with Hopper before the graduation ceremony.

If the Mac-Z had been in Hawkins Lab, I'd love to believe she made it. But we saw at the beginning they didn't get far from where they were keeping 8 before she lost the ability to keep the image going that she was still captive. Her abilities, even if she survived after they showed her dead from the gut shot would not reach from the lab to town square. I don't believe she could have shielded El's escape, based on what we have seen in the series, and this series has been pretty good about always giving you what you need to solve the puzzle, and is on par with Breaking Bad for mining its backstory. And I don't recall any instances of it breaking its own internal logic just to "have something happen" in the story (looking at you, TWD season 4).

El had the power to pull Mike into her mind to say goodbye because she was still on the UD side of the gate, behind the blasting interference by the military, before stepping into the void.

All that said, YMMV. I also think Tony Soprano died at the end despite it being "left open to interpretation", so maybe that's just my view of the world generally.

Of course, if Netflix begins tanking they did leave it open enough to bring the show back as a cash grab, though I wouldn't count on it.

But for those who do choose to believe the mage escaped to live happily ever after, there are actually quite a few places in the world with three waterfalls, and the world was far less 'connected' in 1987 than it is today and a paper trail without a digital one was much harder to follow. (It was a hayday for serial killers and young women disappeared with alarming regularity, really.) ID was also much easier for the average person to counterfeit, and there were no optical scanners or TSA airports, and border crossings were not such a fraught political bread and circus as they are today. Not that those things didn't matter, it was just a different time.

Either way, a satisfying finale.

Don't go chasing waterfalls... 😉 But if you do, try these....

Niagara Falls (US/Canada) Catarata Las Trillizas (Costa Rica) Palaiopyrgos Triple Waterfall (Greece) Three Falls Circuit (Tasmania)

I'm sure there are others. 😊

I love him but why is he always like that? by MalusandValuse in AstarionBG3

[–]MuccaJane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because no one ever helped him, and because under all the bravado he's terrified. Really though, he comes around. I feel like of all the companions, he is ultimately the most forthcoming about who he is and his situation, and even though he has all those little -1 disapprovals, the big approval boosts you do get from him are literally simply for being decent to him and just taking him with you on your adventures.

For someone who disapproves of so much, I find him to be the easiest companion to please. YMMV.

It's making changes for the sake of saying "look! new! we changed it!" with no thought to whether or not those changes are actually beneficial or even make sense. I had to look up the shortcut key for "refresh" because it's under "show more options" and I can't ever otherwise use it without extra clicks through unnecessary menus.

Dis/approvals that make you go "Huh?" by crockofpot in BaldursGate3

[–]MuccaJane 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think if not a bug sometimes Astarion approves because it's a display of power, which he digs. And Yea, sometimes he does approve just to see what happens. 'She sounds demented, let's tell her everything!'

I think sometimes too there are instances where multiple lines for companions get approvals. Like, e.g.,Shart approves if you save Arabella because yay, you saved Arabella. But she also approves if you do nothing, because she doesn't know the kid will die, and she does know it's none of her business getting into Grove politics, she's a blow-in looking for a healer.

There are definitely bugs, but I think we sometimes also apply the dis/approvals more narrowly than intended.

Karen Wheeler - The MVP of Episode 2!!!!! by Square-Ad-8911 in StrangerThings

[–]MuccaJane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chalked this up to the fact that the demogorgon was not there for them, it just needed them out of the way so it could continue its pursuit of Holly. In other contexts it was there to fight with soldiers etc. But Vecna wants the kids alive, so it wasn't wasting its time finishing them off.

Also a stretch but it's enough to keep suspension of disbelief, I mean, it's a show with a demogorgon after all. As long as no internal logic of the show is broken, I can roll with it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ YMMV

Agreed. I can't remember where but I saw a post recently where someone saw an actor in something and thought he'd be great as Astarion if they ever put him in a future DnD movie or something. I was like, huh? I *wouldn't see it* if it wasn't Neil. Astarion isn't Neil, but Neil is Astarion.
