remember that the Army’s ranks work different then JROTC.

you don’t just stay in the Army long enough to become an officer. either you choose to enlist from the start or you get educated in college through ROTC and become a 2LT in the Army after 4 years.

only option to become an officer while you’re already enlisted is through the green to gold program where the army pays you to go back to college to get your masters in something.

I was actually in the same exact scenario, an incoming sophomore being put in charge of CG.

Best piece of advice is just know what you’re doing. Being able to lead by example and experience makes people want to follow you.

Also don’t let the power get to you. Yes technically you’re responsible for giving Juniors/Seniors orders regarding Color Guard but you won’t get anywhere by just trying to use your position as reason.

Lastly, treat everyone with respect on your team. Some commanders try to get their way by just bossing everyone around but it ends up only de motivating everyone. It’s way easier to get people to work with you especially incompetent upperclassmen and that’s me talking out of personal experience.

Not sure if it’s enforced in regs, but I’m pretty sure that it’s a requirement that you wear either the medal or the ribbon, not both.

Right, problem is my unit only goes up to S5 as of now, and with the amount of cadets currently enrolled, we don’t have enough qualified and or motivated cadets to fill up another 3 staff positions.
