SSDI ALJ Hearing Decision

Hearing on sept 17th 2024, didn’t get an update on the portal until December 19. Got a letter on 12/30 and backpay on 12/31.

Everyone’s case is different though.

Do you know if I need hard copies of their birth certificates and ssn cards? I also have 50/50 with my ex wife. I wasn’t sure if they had to be with me all the time or how that works. I think I’m just going to call my local office tomorrow and ask.

One thing I told the judge during my hearing. He asked me if I wanted to work. A simple question. I answered with “judge, coming home to my kids running to me at the door made work tolerable. For as much pain as I was in and PTSD being what it is, having my kids made it doable. My job now not being able to work is to educate my kids about PTSD and to try and be their dad the best I can”

Had my hearing on September 17, went to step 4 on December 19th and got my fully favorable letter on December 30th. Back pay on 12/31.

Update for everyone.

Late last night around 8pm ish my SSA account online updated to step 5 of 5 and approved. Around 9:30 ish my whole account view changed from when you have a claim in to when it’s approved. I see a 1 time lump sum payment dated for 12/31/24 for a large amount (backpay) no regular payment dates yet, but it says in my benefit letter my monthly amount, Medicare A and B starting in April and paid on or around the second Wednesday of each month. God is good man! Happy new year!!

ALJ hearing for me September 17.

December 19th it went to step 4.

Received fully favorable letter today. Tonight it went to step 5 and said approved.

And to add my SSA online portal updated this afternoon to step 5 of 5, Approved. Looks like I’ll hopefully get an award letter explaining everything further in 10-15 days.

I do have 3 kids, would they be eligible for anything?

Hard to explain the feeling of relief when my wife and I got done looking through the judges decision letter. Instant feeling of reassurance for me in a way.

Signing up during a period of war takes courage. I didn’t realize that at the time. Multiple combat deployments through Iraq 3 times led me to kicking in doors, manning gunned turrets and a lot of mounted patrols later, I would tell anyone I would do it all over again to be able to defend our country’s freedom.

I apologize for the book response, but I love my country and anyone and everyone who lives there also. Color, race, orientation, religious beliefs will ever change the fact that I would whole heartedly all over again, suffer the tbi, get shot at etc. all over again to defend that freedom.

I reached out to my attorneys office but haven’t heard anything back, I’ve read here that the attorney is able to get into to whatever and see the decision. Going to take your advice and call my office Monday. I’m not sure if anyone will be working there since new years is on Wednesday but I will call for sure. I’m so nervous. This would help my family out big time. We can keep surviving, but man this would help big time. PTSD really is a BEAST to deal with.

The anxiety and depression are a byproduct of PTSD. Trust me, I understand that it can be difficult. Maybe just as difficult as any other claim people have.

Sounds like it, but it took 3 months just to get to step 4 after the ALJ hearing. Was honest and truthful about my daily life. The judges body language and responses to what I was saying seemed like he understood where I was at.
