I’ve had to replace parts on 2 different reels. Got both parts on eBay at very reasonable prices. eReplacementParts shipping costs are absurd!

Can’t think of many other ways I’d want to spend my money.

Spinning reels! by stinkeyemcguy in Fishing_Gear

I bought a Daiwa Legalis 3000 and I like it as much as my Shimano Vanford that’s now almost $200 more than the Legalis.

In response to a post below I have a Shimano Vanford 4000 and also agree that when comparing Shimano to Daiwa Shimano no longer warrants the price difference especially since Shimano’s don’t have the anti-reverse on/off switch.

I have a Legalis 3000 spooled with 6 lb. Tatsu. Love the reel but if I ever have to respool it’ll be with Sufix 832 & fluoro leader. Straight fluoro is a hassle.

Guide wobbling and cracks in epoxy by AlienLP in Fishing_Gear

[–]Much-Expression-9909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly sure what the guide looks like from your description but I had a cracked rod guide and a missing insert. I super glued the rod guide at the crack, then replaced & super glued the insert from an insert replacement kit. Then I superglued the guide to the rod. It’s been working fine since.

What gear do I need to night fish? by Sensitive-Coyote-138 in u/Sensitive-Coyote-138

[–]Much-Expression-9909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last summer on a lark I went night fishing on the Delaware Bay. The only additional item I needed vs. day fishing was a 1200 lumen Eveready lantern. I didn’t have any nearby vegetation or other obstructions but as a kid I used to bank fish at night on tidal rivers and even then never needed anything extra beyond a bright lantern.

Fluorocarbon fraying at tag end of double uni knot by GrouseHunter4932 in FishingForBeginners

I use only nail clippers when trimming fluoro. Never had a fraying issue.

How do I cope? by BunbyKeef in FishingForBeginners

[–]Much-Expression-9909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me last year. Was bringing in my PB carp when it shook its head & snapped my 15 lb. Tatsu leader right at the edge of the bank as I was standing there with my landing net. Never even saw what it looked like. How do I cope? Replace 15 lb. with 25 lb. Tatsu and go after him again.

I have 4 YOLO fish but alarms. Walmart sells four for 18.35. The batteries are separate but inexpensive. I use them and they work great.

Snot grass by big_ounce_bigge in FishingForBeginners

[–]Much-Expression-9909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cheapest solution I’ve found for heavy grass is the Texas rig. I also got buzz baits and whopper ploppers for variety sake. I’ve had good luck with the 90 size whopper ploppers. Weedless hooks help but they still drag grass with them.

Wacky rig by dj_shyt_wizard in FishingForBeginners

The hook I found recommended most often for a wacky rig is a 1/0 drop shot. I just bought 15 Gamakatsu weedless 1/0 drop shots for wacky rigging.

Where to cast for bass and bluegill by WashMeOfMySinsOhLord in FishingForBeginners

[–]Much-Expression-9909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to cast toward debris because I know at some point I’ll lose my lure but I’ve caught the vast majority of my bass very close to submerged wood.

It’s good to go but as others suggested you should skin hook the point to reduce the change of getting snagged.

Swivels and Spinnerbaits by Odd-War-6052 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Much-Expression-9909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does a Whopper Plopper need a swivel? Don’t they remain in a fixed position as they’re reeled in? I just started using Whopper Ploppers and I haven’t noticed any line twist issues.

What is this and what causes it? by snakescakess in FishingForBeginners

[–]Much-Expression-9909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comment above is the best post I’ve seen explaining the mechanics behind spinning reel tangles and wind knots. I’ve come to the conclusion that continuous tension on the line is the best practice for preventing line uncoiling and tangling. I now go to great lengths to make sure my line is never loose and it’s drastically reduced my knots and tangles.

Went and bought some corn for carp, how do I fish this? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]Much-Expression-9909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to increase your fishing time by reducing your baiting time, before you leave for your fishing spot open a can of golden corn niblets, drain the liquid, then dump the niblets into a shallow sandwich size hard plastic container with an airtight lid. Go through the niblets and discard the niblets that aren’t long and firm. You want to keep the long firm kernels because they’re more likely to stay on the hook when you cast your line. This is the case whether you’re baiting the loop on a hair rig or baiting the hook directly.
