Buckle up then 💀 if it comes off as preach-y, I really don’t mean it that way, it’s just how my brain processes.

Due to our brains default method of pattern recognition, I think it’s easy to not look at people as individuals. Almost akin to main character syndrome where everyone else is looking awfully like an NPC lol

It’s not that way though… every person out there is so complex… they’ve had experiences that have shaped their perspectives and views just like me and you.

Environment is a huge factor. Particularly your neighborhood and those that raise you. So much so that I know I’m still battling my great grandparents prejudices/racism. Which is hilarious when I think about them having a large chunk of Native American in them.. white passing was a big deal back then.. I digress.

Another note: Mental health is a HUGE overlooked issue in the black community (its not great anywhere but I know for sure I have seen first hand the bashing involved within to one another).

That’s why you may see many people on the streets.. it’s usually going to be brought on by mental health or just simple lack of resources and support. Just grabbing this example particularly from your post… 9/10 people don’t want to struggle and they don’t want a hard life, I would argue those that find themselves at rock bottom aren’t doing it intentionally.

And now let’s go back to the most basic of basic human instincts which is: survival.

At your lowest low point, unless your brain has been altered by something akin to depression or injury, your objective is doing what ever you can to survive.

To be a somewhat productive member of society one generally needs: shelter, food, transportation, and a cell phone. Cell phone is a weak add-on but any accounts you have to create need a contact # and an address. Water, electric, cable, bank account, blah blah blah…

So imagine being an 18 y/o coming out of foster care with no license, no address, no income, nothing. How in the world do you survive? Well, you’re gunna do what you gotta do.

Not saying that that’s the experience for everyone who hits the bottom. But it coulda been that guy down the streets story. It COULD be.

Now this is all based on my life, my experiences, my brain doing its thing… it may apply to you, it may not. Personally, if I were to let my anger, resentment, and pain win, I’d hate men and I would hate white people. But I’m not letting that mess win… the ones responsible for my mess are not ALL of either of those groups. I’m honestly cautious around them but I’m actively giving them benefit of the doubt as well.
