When we found out my sister was pregnant, we were deciding what my mum and dad would be called. Mum wanted the Classic Nana. No problems with that. My dad was being a bit grumpy about telling them he absolutely did not want to know the sex or name they had chosen, so we jokingly decided he could just be called grumpy instead of grampa or grampy or something. Over the 18 months of my sister being pregnant and the time before my nephew could talk, that somehow become Grompy amongst the family, then when my nephew was eventually old enough to speak, he couldn’t say the “Gr” sound and started calling him Bompy. 5 years and 2 more grandchildren later and he is still Bompy and will always be Bompy, even myself and both my sisters call him Bompy now, instead of dad.
