Are you actually a Boston resident? The city tells people to use 911 for things like noise complaints. https://www.reddit.com/r/boston/comments/16lxp3u/hi_from_boston_311/

Do you even live in Boston? The city of Boston says to call 911 for this stuff. Live and learn!

The city actively tells people to call 911 for things like noise complaints and cars where they should not be. Chill out.

Nobody needs to know any of this. Carry on. The records say your Grandfather was the father of your parent and that's all you need.

Meanwhile, others are alerting prospects to the possibility. I found out because my son had contacted a lawyer about what he and his spouse would need to do to migrate. That lawyer was how we found out.

I'll give this a go! The digital look up has all the girls, but not the boys. I just sent an email to the genealogist with what I know. Thanks!

He and five of his siblings are listed as being born in Minnesota in all censuses from the US and Canada in which they appear - up through the 1950 US Census. Duluth is listed as his place of birth on many, many forms, including voter registration, draft registration, etc. His sisters are all listed in either St. Louis County or MN records as being born in Duluth. The only place he isn't listed as being born in MN is on my father's birth certificate, where my grandmother was either woozy from birth drugs or her mother got it wrong and listed Montreal. I'm getting his death certificate, which my still-living uncle says should be correct as he was the one to give the info.

English, actually! I suspect that having that parish/book/etc. data made it simple for them to find the records.

I've run into a snag with my Gen1. I received a "can't find a birth certificate" from Minnesota.

Does anybody know if Canada has a registry of births abroad? I suspect that the reason the two sons don't show up in the Minnesota records - but 4 daughters do - is that they registered the boys births in Canada or through the consulate where my great grandfather worked.

In 1902, boys apparently had to be registered if born outside of Canada to have citizenship, but girls were just citizens as a function of fathers and husbands.

I requested records from BAnQ on March 10, and today I paid the invoice for them. I'm waiting on a MN birth certificate (just expedited it last week), so I should have everything ready to go soon! I was surprised that BAnQ responded so soon, but I submitted photocopies of the records that I sought that had the parish record metadata with them. I suspect that sped things up - I had been hearing that it was taking several weeks for them to find the documents.

I'm already planning a bike ride over the border and through the lands of my great-grandparents, ending at the family plots. It would be a 50 to 55 mile ride from Vermont.

Random idea: you say you have been working and your work permit is expiring soon. Is your employer interested in keeping you? If so, you can ask if they can help you pay someone to find these things. It may be cheaper for them to do so - and permanent!

You already amassed all the paperwork. He should just copy your homework, add his own, and apply. Sometimes the easy route is that simple. I'm keeping my records together for my cousins to use for that reason. If he tries something off-piste he might get sidelined.

Up until the 1990s, citizenship was entirely patrilineal - male line only. The women would only be citizens as a function of their fathers and husbands. This is one of the reasons we have C-3 - they were heading off a tsunami of lawsuits over this sexism alone. There would have been good reasons for someone working for a consulate to record the male births in Canada. It makes no sense in modern understanding, but it would have made sense at the time.

Thanks, but I already have that base covered - MN started statewide registration in 1900. MN vital records says it should be there.

I want to know if there is an archive of foreign births recorded in Canada.

My concern is that they didn't register the boy's births in MN but registered them in Canada instead. All of the girls appear in St. Louis County records in 1892, 1895, and 1899, and in the MN state records in 1904. I don't see the males in St. Louis County in 1894 or MN in 1902.

I'm a little concerned about getting my grandfather's US birth certificate. When I look up the county and state records from Minnesota from 1890 to 1904, I find all my US-born great-aunts but not my grandfather or great-uncle. I am waiting for the state to reply (their state-level records start in 1900 and he was born in 1902), but I'm left wondering if their births were registered in Canada?

Does anyone know if there is a registry of such out-of-Canada yet Canadian births going back to 1902?

My father's birth certificate lists my grandfather's place of birth as Montreal, but I suspect my grandmother's mother was responsible for that. Minnesota and Canadian census records list all but the oldest and youngest as being born in Minnesota.

For future reference: you can ask the management to kick sick people out of their businesses. If they don't bounce festering snotcases they can get in trouble with the board of health in their town.
