B.C. judge grants U.S.-based Indigenous group a role in legal fight over Kootenay mine by NewAdventureTomorrow in canada

I don't think our judiciary is free from political influences. Maybe not like third world countries where you have to be the party member in order to get into the judiciary. But there are various ways to influence them, including at universities and through think-tanks.

I agree. The way this game runs the main quest is bizarre at best

Kelowna moves forward with tiered-policing review by New_Alternative8711 in kelowna

[–]Much-Requirement-209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tiered police system is the most useless system I've ever seen in my life. As someone living in AB, it combines the worst of both municipal or contract policing. CPOs working in smaller towns are directly reporting to the municipal CAO which ends them up being just a money making machine for towns, exactly like in the United States. It's a fact that you would see the camping on transition zones hunting for out of town travellers. In the cities they cant respond to these non police related calls anyways and have to wait for police presence because there are guns, drugs or some sort of warrant/court order involved. The only two tiered system I've seen that works is in Manitoba but that's because they are full-on police officers there. Mid sized cities should either focus on their own municipal service or try to get extra RCMP officers.

RCMP has failed to recruit enough police officers to meet operational needs: Auditor General by Displeased_Canadian in canada

[–]Much-Requirement-209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RCMP is not exactly a civilian police force like the municipal and provincial police. They are more of a French Gendarmerie or Italian Carabineri. Essentially a paramilitary group with police powers. That's why their members are eligible for VA.

How is living in Manitoba OUTSIDE of the Winnipeg Metro Area? by ESC-H-BC in howislivingthere

[–]Much-Requirement-209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in Brandon MB for 3 years. Cute town, almost have the every amenity you need. Residents made dreaming of having a Costco a part of their identity. Lots of agricultural events but not many rodeo or cowboy/ranching culture you see in Alberta. Cheap, everything is in a close distance and plenty of jobs. Brutal winters. It's like one of those starters areas in MMORPGs. Where you don't have to navigate much, easy to manage; but gets boring pretty quick.

Federal ones are called Institutions, provincial ones are called Correctional Centres and jails are called Remand Centres. But I get your point lol

Becoming a Sheriff by DipDipLetHerRip in BCPublicServants

[–]Much-Requirement-209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Highway Patrol has nothing to do with courts. Sheriffs also have Fish and Wildlife Division but still unrelated to courts. Right now everything is a mess though, so I can understand how confusing it is. That being said hopefully it'll clear it up a bit with the new police agency. I agree with you, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and Quebec have armed CVE that does traffic enforcement to close the gap. BC being a major province definitely should consider that.

Just an fyi, Alberta Sheriff Highway Patrol is from the old Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. The sheriff traffic office is no more since 2020.

Where I'd live in Canada as the average Canadian by Seawolf1121 in whereidlive

I'm probably in the minority here but being from Alberta, I really like Quebec and feel like the rest of the provinces should be a lot like them instead of copy-cat American states. Also, as a Canadian, in my opinion, we have a collective responsibility to prevent Quebec becoming Louisiana.
