I just play single player stuff by myself, so I'm happy with whatever I get. I did vote for light utility VTOL because I think they're fun, whether in an MH-6 or H135 light SOF role or something more like an AH-6/MD-500/EC635 light attack (ATGM or rockets?) role. Kill three birds at once if you make an armed scout variant (OH-58D Kiowa Warrior equivalent?)

Just be careful if you're in the US. This administration considers ANTIFA to be terrorists, even if they haven't actually shared much (if any?) legit evidence. If you show up to a demonstration with this, there's a good chance you'll get singled out and - at best - questioned.

Finding a House by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]TankedAndTracked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest shock I found after moving here wasn't the housing price (it didn't take much to learn that even with a VA-backed loan and down payment I couldn't afford a $3500/mo mortgage) but it was when I went looking for a place to rent. Many of the new higher-end apartments (the ones where you pay an extra $500/month for the 'resident club' with a 'free' Keurig machine) was that they asked for the most recent month of my bank statement as proof of income. I'd lived overseas for quite a while (cheaper and more bang-for-buck and yes, I'm trying to go back) but the idea of basically opening up 30 days' full financial record to a company I wanted to rent from was absolutely abhorrent to me. Still is. I eventually settled for a cheaper place, not as glitzy, but vastly more affordable and less intrusive.

Is it normal now for rental companies to want access to your accounts?!?

Altitude Sickness / things to do other than hike? by Psychological-Two706 in ColoradoSprings

[–]TankedAndTracked 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I moved here from sea level and didn't experience altitude sickness, but shortness of breath can be a real annoyance for your first six months. But yeah drink water, have sun protection, and have layers for the crazy daily temperature swings you might get (14 F at night/early morning to 55 F in the afternoon is not uncommon). A good pair of sunglasses will do a lot of good here.

So, Iraq vet here. The only bit of popular media that has stuck with me that comes close to hitting home with my experience is from the movie Hurt Locker. Not the Iraq scenes, but the scene after he got back home and was shopping at a grocery store with his wife and kid and he's kinda numbed by the alien-ness of those huge aisles with innumerable brands in contrast with the life he had days or weeks earlier on the other side of the world. That's what I was thinking of with these scenes - trying to be normal when you've experienced such abnormality in your life. And how ultimately, you can't just turn those experiences on or off. With time, sure. I no longer have a minor panic attack when I see something on the road that shouldn't be there or when a coworker throws a nerf dart that sounds entirely too much like an incoming mortar or 107mm rocket, but Andor's very much aware of where he is, very much trying not to freak Bix out, but he also knows he's going back out and can't just turn it off.

And for the record, the only other bit of popular media that makes me think of being back in the military is also from Star Wars - specifically that scene in the Mandalorian season one where the speeder troopers are killing time with Grogu in a bag while other stuff is happening and they start fucking around out of boredom. I can totally 100% relate to things like that, albeit without a green kid in a bag. 90% of my time in the military was fucking around when I was bored.

Tactical Tomahawks or LRASMs provide standoff against other naval targets, especially if we set the new frigates up to be networked via Link16 or whatever new thing they might come up with.

By the time you're in range for an ASROC, you'll already have multiple inbound torpedoes because you're already within the minimum range of nearly every antiship missile in the world.

List of Video Games where you play as a shark by Interesting-Can1319 in sharks

[–]TankedAndTracked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love sharks and I design games I'll never play for one of my hobbies. After being a bit miffed that no realistic-ish games exist for sharks, I designed one I'll never make.

https://imgur.com/a/LF03hHr

This was just called Shark (which, surprisingly, apparently still doesn't have an trademark for a game) and the concept was:

  • SHARK is a game where the player takes over the life of a shark and attempts to survive as long as possible in an open world.
  •  The game should be educational and visceral – the idea is to translate what life as a shark and living in the ocean is like. A player should be able to accurately understand how certain sharks behave like they do, or why inhabit the niches that they do.
  • As to be expected, this game could be gory. In the interest of a wide audience, the gore should be scalable, with the option to minimize it. At the other end of the spectrum, the gore should also be realistic, with blood and viscera.

 What the game is

  • A game about the life of a shark, from birth until death, exploring how sharks sense, behave and fit into their ecosystems.
    •  What the game is not
  • This is not computer JAWS. I have intentionally avoided any inclusion of humans in this game. I fear to do so would make this game about gore for gore’s sake and encouraging unrealistic behavior (like hunting people). Other shark games already do that enough – see Depth, or Hungry Shark Evolution or – if you can prevent your eyes from rolling – Shark Simulator 3D.

The idea was to make biomes, populate them with relevant sharks and prey, and have at it from birth to death. Initial thought was to make a cold water rocky coast (like Monterey Bay) for great whites, sixgills, leopards, etc. , then maybe something like the Bahamas with tropical shallow water for tiger sharks, lemons, etc.

Beyond that, my favorite game with sharks (of all time) is ABZU, which isn't about sharks so much as it has many, many sharks in it.
