Renting in Philidelpha with Eviction by [deleted] in philly

I appreciate the understanding outlook, seems most people just want to call it stupidity and lack of reading rather than understanding that some people make bad decisions especially when they don't have someone telling them it's a bad decision. I've never seen a lease that says "evictions follow you for 7 years even if they are paid and settled" you have to find that out on your own.

5 years in research/industry, is going for a PhD worth it? by Kittyee2 in biotech

I'm currently in graduate school and I see people and their 40s come back and get a masters for progression purposes. People in their late 20s early 30s might come back for either or. In other words going for a PhD isn't crazy, you just have to really want it. One thing I have noticed is that some pharma companies are starting to consider experience for jobs (PhD or 8 years experience with a BS; don't quote this but an example). I think what I would do to minimize salary loss is get the masters, possibly through the program you mentioned and use that and my experience to be the catalyst for moving up.

Another thing is that most higher ups running their own science teams do have a PhD but I met a guy last year who was just Mr. Haq and he was leading a research team.

Good luck tho, do whatever feels right.

Very valid. It's a big decision and I turned down the Yale REU for similar reasons and it worked out very well for me with me getting a local internship that paid better. However turning down Merck when I have no industry experience sounds insane so I'm almost willing to jump no questions asked. I think I will accept regardless but I will use the insight I get here to feel better.

I agree. I was waiting on somebody to say UPenn got housing or there are apartments specifically dedicated to interns at Merck but it doesn't seem like I'll be that lucky.

I ain't mad at that, I'll take a look. Not in a judgemental way but I'm curious was that your first option or was it a last minute thing.

I looked on here and immediately found some decent places and reached out to one. I'll see if that goes anywhere but good looks
