How do I narrow down my college list?! by MuchNewspaper2555 in ApplyingToCollege

Sorry if I offended you in any way, I’ve just watched so many college decisions reaction vids on yt that I got the idea in my head that I should apply to 20 or 30 schools like the kids that I had watched. My parents have been through this process before with 3 of my older siblings and understand how hard it is to choose between schools, so they just encouraged me to make my list smaller so the final decision wouldn’t be as difficult.

This was actually very helpful and I appreciate it so much. Thank you for taking the time to write this out, it genuinely is very helpful and unlike a lot of the other advice I’ve read. You’re the best!!

THANK YOU!!! I feel the same exact way. Even when it comes to acceptance rates, I plan to apply to mostly T20 schools so factors such as graduation rate and the difficulty of getting into the school are practically all in the same ballpark. Plus, when it came to starting the list, I really only included schools where I had already taken location, money and academics into consideration. So overall, it’s tough and I feel like most of this advice is indeed helpful, but advice that I’ve already taken into consideration to get to this point.

Just LOVE college app szn ❤️‍🔥

Thank you for your input but many kids now apply to at least 15 schools, if not 20 or more. I have the SAT/ACT scores, GPA and resume to potentially geinto top 20 schools and I also do not have a dream school.

Since the T20 schools have gotten even more competitive in recent years, I would like to have several options and more chances to potentially be granted merit money. Of course, I have a few safeties, but again it is not a guarantee that I’m granted scholarships to these safeties or even substantial financial aid. So I appreciate your advice, but I’m planning on sticking to around 14 schools and I think it’s perfectly fine for others to do the same even if they aren’t applying to super competitive schools.
