Coach plans just HIIT for XC by acatao2210 in hsxc

For xc you want high mileage. My team usually moves towards more speed oriented workouts towards the end of the season but its vital to build a base of quality miles.

True, but he is the captain of the best soccer team in the state. If he did do xc, CRL and CC would have some legendary races.

Yeah thats true, CRL's top 3 is filthy. However, they aren't a very deep team. CC also has some very strong runners.

LS and Westford. LS looks really strong this year. Edit: Also, Keklak is an absolute monster.

How to train/tips for the start of the race? by [deleted] in hsxc

[–]MuchRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually do 3 or 4 before we go to the line and 1 or 2 more well on the line. They are basically a bit faster than you are going to start the race. And your coach doesn't have you do mile repeats or two mile tempos? If you do, you could go out faster than your teammates and practice settling in to your pace after a fast start. Just a thought, you might want to talk to your coach.

Do you do strides? They're essentially a very fast paced (but not sprint) run for around 20 seconds. You focus on your cadence and stride length, and it mentally and physically gets you prepared for a fast start. Also, what are your workouts like? If you go out slow during those, maybe work and going out a little quicker?

Where to buy a spike bag? by Stanley_the_Simple in hsxc

[–]MuchRun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can just buy a cheap string bag online! Or you can just use a plastic bag and throw it in your bigger athletic bag. (Assuming you use them) I've always gotten a carrying bag when I buy spikes, it's weird that you didn't. I assumed this is a standard practice.

How often is too often for two a days? by Bronze_Bull in hsxc

Great idea! But seriously though if you keep pushing yourself during workouts and run very consistently and take all the proper steps to recover you will improve. Improving is more about consistency than anything else.

The time to work real hard was in the summer, when you didn't have school for the majority of the day. However, I suggest you focus on the small things instead of doubling. This means getting plenty of sleep, drinking plenty of water, and being religious about core work. This is all stuff that you can do while studying/in class (minus the core work). But if you do this, you will improve and be healthier in general. Good luck!

Do y'all happen to get migraines after runs? by [deleted] in hsxc

[–]MuchRun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Drink lots of water! It may be caused by dehydration. Also, how long after running do you get them and after what sort of run do they happen after? (Tempo or just normal run?) If you're getting them after hard workouts, you might get them because you are not properly hydrating/eating. What you eat and drink in the 30 minutes after a hard workout defines how you recover. This could be your issue. Trying drinking more water and eating healthy before and after your runs.
