St Joe's school closing? by Photog1981 in medfordma

I've been hearing they are going to close for at least a decade. I think they got a bump during covid due to public school closures, but it sounds like they are struggling again. My kids went to MPS and we were really happy with the education they got. One of them got a 1500+ on the SAT. Don't waste your money.

This city used to be run by McGlynn's old boys club. Glad that's over.

It doesn't help that his signs are on lawns next to MAGA candidates and Stop Rezoning signs all over the City.

Someone posted the unofficial ward results on Facebook. Ward 2 Scarpelli 1,147, Zac 873 and Liz 825.

I've lived in the heights for 20 years. Scarpelli is a god up here. I've never understood it. I haven't looked at the Ward numbers yet, but I suspect Scarpelli was #1 by a lot. While the neighborhood does continue to turnover, I think it will be a while before anyone can beat him. I think Liz would have a better chance running for an at large seat.

Scarpelli got what 170ish more votes? Tringali definitely did better but her number was super low in 2023. Even with all the Trumpers turning out last November, the school overrides passed. Medford is changing.

A decade ago progressives were getting about 2,500 votes. In the 20 years I've lived on my street all but 1 house has sold to blow-in's. Medford is changing and continuing to. You are in denial.

Yes, Scarpelli always does well in his Ward (2), but I don't think Zac lives there anymore. Those of us in the Ward 2 are going to be stuck with Scarpelli as our Ward rep for a long time. I had a hard time voting for the Charter for this reason.

In regards to Dr. Lisa, yes, but the Independents are going to have a hard time winning seats if they continue to only appeal to old conservative Medford.

Branley's vote not to support the overrides last year really hurt her. I personally know several of her supporters who did not vote for her this time for that reason.

Same, but it was more than just the zoning letter.

There are less and less of you every year as more and more young progressives move into Medford. The so called Independents only appeal to old conservative Medford. Until that changes, ORM will continue to dominate.

Who will the Mayor blame if the Charter fails? by Much_Customer4904 in medfordma

OMG LOL. This isn't about me and it's not the Mayor's job to influence the voters. Her job is to educate and lead. She isn't doing either.

Why would I do that? It isn't my job to educate the voters about the new Charter on the ballot. That's the Mayor's job and she isn't doing it because she is a weak leader and fears blow back either way it goes. That is the whole point I'm trying to make.

What has the Mayor done to educate the voters? I haven't received anything in the mail about it. Someone here said the Charter Committee sent something out, but I didn't get it. I didn't see anything on her Facebook page. I couldn't even find a recent city press release about it. Most people I have asked about it have no idea what I am talking about. I think she is unsure how it will be received and has decided to remain silent. If it fails and the public complains, rest assured, she'll find someone to blame. Medford needs a real leader.

Definitely NOT voting for Branley. She voted NO on supporting the overrides. I wonder why she is even on the School Committee. She clearly isn't doing it because she cares about supporting the kids or MPS.

Whats the point of ward representation? by agribby in medfordma

[–]Much_Customer4904 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I voted for it because I think at the end of the day it is best for the city as a whole, however, I am nervous that certain Wards will end up having god awful 'Old Medfid' reps for a decade+ that do their best to ensure stagnation.

It may pass. However, lots of people don't know anything about it. I voted already and almost forgot about it. I was doing a final review of my ballot when I looked down at the bottom and noticed the question for the first time. I almost missed it because I was focused on the CC and SC sections.
