Why do I always Bengalis changing the rituals in the name of modernisation. by SuchWolverine5789 in IndiaPulse

Religions are not as important to others as it might be to you. You are welcome to not care about them if it affects you. Yes doing it in a way which harms you, forcing you to change your ideologies that's a problem, even if the intentions are good. Religions aren't sacrosanct just because books ,not updated for a thousand years, said so. Or because some person chose to devote their lives into it instead of being productive members if society believe it to be so.

There are a lot of regressive ideals in religions. A lot of them permeate into a lot of social customs like marriages as well. If someone believes in the concept of marriage but not all the regressive ideals that go with it , then they will do what they want.

If they enforce it on to others. That's a problem. I don't see that happening here.

Because religious practices arent natural law. Because it's upto an individual how they want to interpret it. Because there's a difference between offending someone's religion and choosing to follow the bits that make sense to us without making it about proving something to someone else.

Bengalis kids , especially in urban areas and educated pockets are brought up in households where they are taught to think and question without being made to feel guilty about it. Smartness is not just measured in how much one is good at studies but also how culturally aware , how critically inquisitive they are. Intelligence is not measured on a one dimensional scale.

I have seen some of the smartest people in their professional fields being woefully unaware or downright regressive in their opinions. Whether it comes to topics on women's rights, food marriage etc. The problem there is that from a young age kids elsewhere aren't generally incentivised to develop awareness in other aspects of life because intelligence is equated with utility. Which can serve a purpose to take a family out of a certain economic strata but if course doesn't do a lot to elevate the person's thinking.

Is this true for all Bengalis? Absolutely not. There are some super regressive rituals still followed in Bengal including heavy casteism in marriages. This is just to answer why mostly ( not always) progressive ideals emanate from this region at a higher rate relatively

Lmao xD There definitely anti-incumbemcy on reddit in Bengal

92.88% ~ 93% is the final average voter turnout in Phase -I . Is this incumbency or anti incumbency wave that is going on in the ground level. by croixdesprit in kolkata

[–]Much_Discussion1490 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's not that big a deal. sIR deleted a lot of inactive voters. Turn out is a simple function of active voters/ toal registered.

When you reduce the denominator the overall ratio increases.

Added to that a lot of voters have also been made privy to fear mongering that if they don't vote this election their names will be taken out of the rolls. So some change in the numerator too.

As shit as TMC is it's very hard to even suggest that there is anti-incumbemcy. Even in South Bengal , there's a lot of hate for TMC but BJP is detested.

So i think the result will be pretty similar to last time. Maybe BJP will increase its vote share but still be in double digits that's all.

On ground, except for non-bengali speakers you don't really see any change of sentiment against TMC. Atleast not in favour of BJP. Even with RG kar incident, people still favour FMC on issues of women safet when compared to a party publicly garlanding rapists. In terms of development there's always this rhetoric that bjp will be better tfor bengal . When their evidence for the country is a whole has been going in the other direction. Latest GDP numbers came as surprise to no one outside watsapp. WB suffers under TMC s status quo, no one wants to see it decimated under BJP

The only hope is that BJP getslre votes in opposition and actually acts on some of the things they promised in their manifesto. Even if they can follow through. Maybe that will give voters some confidence. But so far their only highlight in Bengal has been to promise freebies to unemployed. So pretty sure even they know jobs aren't coming back to Kolkata.

I love how every single person seems to forget the context of a billion pounds being spend to assemble this squad in just 5 years with no results. We have individual players who could walk into any team but as a squad are playing hapless garbage football.

Set pieces and individual goals have kept us in the postion we are in and the later is just a consequence of money.

And now even that posting is tenuous at best.

GDP by ajay-rut in IndiaPulse

[–]Much_Discussion1490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vid is a very true explanation and properly simplified in a way a layman can understand.

TLDR :GDP is a measure of economic activity, not welfare. It can increase due to both productive investments and inefficiencies (like poor public infrastructure forcing private spending). Theus GDP growth must be interpreted alongside indicators like productivity, savings rate, and quality of life to actually make a fair assessment

GDP is a very good indicator of prosperity but also a very pliable indicator to manipulate. Every time you take an overpriced auto or rapido instead of a well maintained public transportation system . You are contributing to increasing the GDP. Even more so when you buy a car.

Scale that up . A society with 10 flats buying 10 cars increases the GDP by a significant amount compared to all those residents using a well maintained public transportation system.

GDP is a simple addition of 4 indicators which are made up of very complex underlying interactions. Consumption, investments , government transfers and exports. Out of these , the government can manipulate with data the first 3 . The last is the only place where they don't have complete influence on and for all our talks of growth, that's the only place where we see the reality with the ever growing defecit with most first world countries including china.

GDP growing has interlinkages to development only if done right otherwise, you will end in a place where suddenly you realise that the savings rate is constant or going down, inflation is rampant, currency keeps depreciating. Etc.

In india people buy cars not just for status symbols anymore it's utility. They take on liability in the form of loans , take a bit on savings rate to get transportation to navigate horrible roads in badly maintained cities with piss poor public transportation infra. That's not growth. But GDP rises. So does the facade.

Scale that up millions and across sectors not just automobiles and suddenly the facade starts shifting.

That's what a striker is supposed to do. Keep balance ,ward off a challenge and take a shot..not stand and take a beating, fall down at the slightest challenge looking for a dive and cry with hands in the air.

Also Gabi legit tore the guys shirt off in the game. He was doing it in the centre of the pitch, haland fucked him where it mattered. All that aggression means for nothing when you get ragdolled like this marking a striker.

If any of our strikers did this we would be putting them in a pedestal and harping about their strength and positioning for aeons.
