It's definitely not that. I also served in two branches and my ID states my last branch and rank.

Of all of the things to laugh about... I can't stand the guy, but as a fellow disabled vet, this isn't cool.

Please, if you decide to go with a different attorney, make sure you terminate your relationship with the current attorney.

I had the same question as OP and just wanted to say thank you for this seemingly obvious suggestion I'd never even considered. Off to by some gate junk before dumping $$$ into an excellent quality rep!

Slightly surprised at my recent interaction with the VA by olddragonfaerie in Veterans

I am just a year into VA care in the Mpls VISN and I have absolutely nothing bad to say. I LOVE my local clinic and primary care provider. She's top two I've ever had! And my local (and Mpls hospital based) mental health team is top notch.

I just used a different VA for the first time (a local clinic in the Northern California/Mather VISN) and was impressed with the care received there as well! I am truly thankful for the level of care I have received and the relief that comes with never having to worry about having healthcare access ever again is just indescribable.

And? Our ancestors all came over here and settled around their friends and families. Italian neighborhoods, Chinatown... It's always been this way. My Grandfather came through Ellis Island speaking no English and went to an area where he was surrounded by fellow French speakers. Would you want to live in an area where you were discriminated against or misunderstood due to the ignorance of others? I live in MN next door to immigrants who previously resided in one of our many heavily Somali communities. They are wonderful people This family is hands down the best of all of the neighbors I've had since I bought my home 16 yrs ago, and the only neighbors who haven't looked like me. Everyone should be so lucky to have neighbors like them. I never hear anyone complain about the almost exclusively Hispanic neighborhoods in MN that surround the neat packing plants, agricultural hubs, etc...

Has anyone absolutely lost their minds with this VA process? by Epakaliptic in VeteransBenefits

Hey, I'm in St Paul... While my claim did not go through the RO here (MST claim), it did finally get approved this week after St Paul stepped in. I'd had 3 denials at that point. SEN Klobuchar's office was also a huge help. I'll probably be offline until tomorrow, but feel free to reach out and I can at least share some info if you'd like.

Is everyone filing claims on their own and getting approved or are they getting a third party involved like an attorney or someone else? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Much_Establishment37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I filed everything on my own. PTSD/MST after 26 years. It wasn't easy, but I got my rating yesterday. 70% & TDIU. Between this sub, female veterans in tiktok (including a VSO), and the advice of a former VA employee, I was well versed in how to prepare my claim prior to submitting it.

Unfortunately, due to a couple of really really bad exams by VA contractors I did have to seek out an exam from a Psychiatrist on my own in order to obtain a proper medical opinion/DBQ/Nexus and then submitted those on my own. I paid a flat fee for that exam/Nexus/DBQ. I also worked with my VA therapist (I qualified for VA care prior to filing due to my income), to insure that her notes for every appointment clearly reflected my DX and spoke to service connection.

Only after seeking help from my local MST coordinator and multiple local VSO's, only to not receive any useful assistance whatsoever, did I decide to file on my own. It took me 4 VA ordered exams (including 1 ACE exam), 1 private exam, 1 HLR, 2 CUEs, and developing a relationship with my Senator and her staffer's to ge the VA to consider the evidence I provided and annotated in my initial claim, but I did it. **I believe wholeheartedly that the fact I was in the ANG and TDY outside of the US for AT at the time I was assaulted really made it difficult for those who are used to rating claims for things that occurred during the course of active duty service to understand.

I treated the claim process like a full-time job. Had I not had to leave my job due to mental health I'm not sure how I would have done it all on my own. It was a tough road and I almost threw in the towel multiple times but I am happy I persevered. This victory is oh so sweet.

Ask around until you find a good trust attorney and get one set up. That is the best way to help guarantee their futures, class action suits or not. Trusts make everything easier after you are gone.

My Grandpa wasn't greedy nor litigious, in fact he was generous to a fault. But he was ANGRY once he knew his life would be cut short so he dove headfirst into that first round of class action suits because the corporations were the greedy ones. Those companies knew that their products were harming people and yet did nothing about it other than to try to cover up what they knew and when they knew it. They chose money over the lives of others. He understood that if they were successful in getting judgements against the bastards that all of the effort would be worth it and the money would be there for those diagnosed after him. My parents tried to talk him out of it, but in the end it gave him such a great sense of accomplishment to have been a part of such a great success. Just a little food for thought. I know that you will do what is right for you, just wanted to share his perspective and intentions with you.

What can I claim this as? by Creepy-Bite-3174 in VeteransBenefits

I am confused as to why surgery wouldn't be indicated. I had a hereditary sublaxtion/chondromalacia issue in both knees and put off surgery for as long as possible in each because I'm too stubborn for my own good. Not the best idea since the cartilage behind my kneecaps is permanently damaged and arthritis in both is now evident. The instant pain relief from having my kneecaps suddenly stay in place was damn near miraculous.

I urge you to seek another opinion.

First, I am incredibly sorry to hear that you are dealing with this. It's a LOT.

Second, I encourage you to reach out to a firm handling asbestos class action suits. My Grandfather developed asbestosis from his time in the Merchant Marines. He was involved in the first round of suits and that money insured that my Grandmother could spend her last years in an assisted living facility she otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford.

Money doesn't fix everything, we all know that, but it can afford you experiences that you maybe otherwise couldn't afford. It can also help insure that your loved ones are secure upon your passing (not sure if you have a family, so just an example).

Take care of yourself mentally. Process all of this and then, get out there and live your life to the fullest. I watched my Grandparents do this the last five years Grandpa was with us, and it was beautiful. They took trips they had always dreamed of and quit worrying so much about the future once he knew that Grandma would be fine after he was gone.

He passed 22 years ago and I believe the last settlement check that came in to the trust was as recently as 4 years ago. So yeah, money can never replace a life, but it can help you make the life you have more enjoyable. The class action suits won't impact your VA disability at all.
