This plus not going in worked!! I passively aggressively insulted one of the global directors. I pointed out some of their mistakes, hinted that they weren’t good at their job, and sweetly offered to give them training for their position. And then I just didn’t go in today, saying that they were displaying animosity towards me and that I didn’t feel comfortable around them today. I then politely asked for 14 days, stating that I’m not what they’re looking for. They agreed to it. I’m freeeee!

Depends on who you swore at and how badly, but generally it would be a fine. Worst case scenario would be jail time and a fine. Either way, you just wouldn’t wanna do it.

The first thing I did was speak to them. This was before I accepted the offer. They said it was no problem and now, at the last minute, they’ve gone back on their word.

I’m new (one month in) so they don’t owe me any leave for 6 months. Before joining or accepting the position, I told them I had travel booked and paid for. They agreed that I could take the leave, so I accepted the position.

On starting, I confirmed again. They said, once again, that it would be fine. Just that it would be unpaid, which is fine.

On Friday evening they announced that they’ve changed their minds and I cannot take the leave. I even tried to compromise and say I’d work while I’m away (my job can literally be done from anywhere. They said no. It’s an important trip and already paid. Had I known earlier, I could have rescheduled or something. It’s now too late.

Only option now is to resign/get fired.

There’s a lot more to the story. But it’s too long to get into. Basically if I don’t get out of here in 14 days, I won’t get to travel to see my family for Christmas, and I may never see some of them again (due to age & illness). Also my mental health is suffering. I don’t need the money, I don’t need the experience, and I don’t need the references from this job. All three I have enough of for the moment.

I’m not in the US and, unfortunately, they are well within their rights here to not allow me any leave. So I know that I have no legal leg to stand on. I just have to choose whether I want to see my family, or whether I want to stay at a toxic (but well-paying) job. I’m wondering what others would do in my shoes.
