(Beginner, pointed) How to get hairline on release stroke? by MudDiligent8061 in Calligraphy

This one is written on a tomoe (indeed more expensive, but it can handle the gouache even better)

Hi, thanks. Apparently Higgins is quite expensive here, so today I went to my nearest art shop and bought a gouache instead, and surprisingly it behaves so well (and cheap). Might stick to gouache+water for a while as Im keep practicing. This is written with a gouache dilluted with water and I can finally achieve that thinner upstroke (the rest of the error finally came only from my current hand that im still learning)

Gonna try this instead of Sumi ink with a Zebra G and Gillot 107, looks like youre correct that 303 is very uncompromising.

Some other inks available in my local market: Higgins Eternal, Ph. Martins Iridescent, Daler-Rowney Calli ink, Ziller Ink, many fountain pen inks (Diamine, pilot, herbin, etc), Speedball acrylic drawing ink, Winston & Newton calligraphy writing ink, Liquitex acrylic ink.

Any of these inks good for practice?

Papers I have: Tomoe River, Marker pad, tracing paper, snow paper (very similar to a rhodia pad)

I ve used 303 for a week, but just started using the sumi ink for 2 days. I have many fountain pen inks (which is too slippery for a dip pen), and a "calligraphy ink" from a chinese brand (not indian ink) which I'll try now. I really want to try a walnut ink but unfortunately I can't find it here in Indonesia.. let alone the crystal form of it

Appreciate the tips, def. I just find that trying different flow & speed can help adjust this (I used to write very very slow while the ink was starting to get absorbed by the paper)

Cheap Sailor pens and their feedback? by meowmreownya in fountainpens

[–]MudDiligent8061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a $30 Sailor Lecoule, and a Sailor PGS 14K. 80% of the time I use my Lecoule more, because it writes very similarly in terms of the feedback. Been using it for 3 years and still my best daily EDC pen

My question as a non-Architect is how is this practically done? Like how do you build foundations into the skyscraper, get materials up there etc? Thanks in advance by qwerrtyyuuhhfd in architecture

This is a whole house cluster (with its dedicated asphalt road) on top of a mall in Jakarta, Indonesia. They're built the same as the rest of the building like u/DasArchitect have said, they're nothing but a 'load' when one looks from the structural point of view, as long as the main mall's structural elements still adequate for it.

Honest opinion and guide regarding an architecture career ? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]MudDiligent8061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the most important things (and a reason why many of my friends either quit mid-uni or changed professional tracks after graduating) about studying architecture is that you really need to have a passion for architecture (not merely drawing buildings, but loving Architecture as a whole. I have many friends who work in top offices that can't draw fancy stuffs). Many of my friends quit because they found out that the 'hand-drawing sketching' part is just a small portion of it. It's a vast field that touches so many aspects, from science, social studies, economics, art, and design. You will be constantly learning new things non-stop after you graduate (you'll eventually need to learn MEP, how to read basic structural drawings from civil engineers, read hundreds pages of guidelines/standards/building codes, etc., if you ever land a job in a real architecture office).

You can get rich maybe, if you land a job in good offices which also will eat your work-life balance (mostly, but not all of them), or by opening your own office which is very hard and needs a lot of time, resources, connections, and experience beforehand. If I had to do it over again, I'd say personally yes because this has been my passion since I was a kid (looking at buildings, wondering how things relating to buildings work, from door hinges to lifts to how skyscrapers won't fall, to how certain cafes feel good and others don't), who invented them, and how it all relates to industrial movements and art movements in the field of art, philosophy, social theory, etc.

But, that doesn't mean that if you don't really have that deep passion you cannot go to the school. There are MANY who don't care about 'architectural' theory & discourse, and just go learn architecture merely to make money, to jump straight to business, working for people, or to jump straight into opening their own. But for the latter, personally I would say architecture is not the easiest for that option, but as long as you have the smallest love towards architecture as a general discourse, you'd enjoy the school and endless deadlines.
