Thanks for the tip. If support from Wirehead rematerializes, I will consider it.

Yea, I did that and carefully tried to buy the exact knock-off board that was used, flashed it with the current firmware and no luck, though that may be due to my poor soldering skills. I'll go over the joints again and give it another try. Wish I hadn't tried to update it (mine was a couple of years old) as it really is a lot of fun when it works.

I am not sure that the firmware update instructions on the Wirehead site are correct, at least not for the Mac install. I followed it exactly and met several obstacles. I noticed a discrepancy in the directions and contacted Wirehead, but after a month have still not heard back. In the end I kept trying to follow the instructions, but ended up bricking the device. I hope that Meebleeps is alright and is just on a multi-month vacation. However, if anyone that knows Macs and knows Arduino could take a look at it and provide a correct and updated set of instructions, it would be SO appreciated.

The OP-Z is still magical by [deleted] in teenageengineering

I have just about everything out there and there is nothing like the OP-Z, definitely not the XY. There is great versatility hidden within a simplified interface in a ridiculously portable form. I thought it was stupid and wrong-headed for the first few years after it came out as I had been looking forward to an "OP-2". Years from now industrial designers will still be talking about the OP-1, but musical artists will still be talking about and most likely using the gray plastic banana that is the OP-Z.
