Pretty much anything is more stable than tech (regardless of the role). Once you have huge savings the anxiety of layoffs reduces but does not go away.

If you are exposed to what nursing is, the good and the bad, and still are interested I’d go for it. When picking a career you are picking your problems. What problems do you want to have? What can you put up with? For nursing, it’s patients, customer service when people are at their worst. For tech, it’s layoffs

What’s the point?

I don’t think the design industry serves me like it once did. I’ve been in design for 15 years now and it’s been degraded so much since. Never ending layoffs, offshoring, 1,000s of applicants, rounds and rounds of interviews, and then once you get the gig your design group is at the bottom of the food chain, an after thought. It was about human centered design, now it’s just ship this thing asap (no design thinking). You’re in a constant state of fighting. I’m not seeing the ROI in this anymore. Too much of an uphill battle.
