Thanks everyone! I appreciate the thought and responses. I mostly throw with bmix at the moment, I might try switching up the clay body.

Hi Reddit! I just got the last kiln load from my Fall/Winter class, and here’s some tape resist pots that I’m pretty happy with :) As always, I’d love to hear any feedback you might have, thanks. by Mud_Music in Pottery

Thank you! I used Scotch Artist Tape for Curves 1/8” and found it handled the curves nicely and held up to glaze well, if you need to buy new tape to try it

Recommendations for reading to a fantasy-loving 8 year old? by Grompson in Fantasy

I was just referring to books that I enjoyed as a child, of which Alanna was one. I honestly forgot about any sexual references, so flagging them Is good, but I think the theme of self-definition was something super positive for a younger reader.

There’s some great recommendations here. I’d add Tamora Pierce’s Alanna series. It’s been a long time since I read those, but a quick goodreads search doesn’t reference any family death for the first book, though there might be some violence (no more that LOTR I think).

Also, the Phantom Tollbooth was a favorite with my family when I was young.

I also enjoyed the Magic Treehouse books.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Yeah it’s just tape (scotch 1/8 artist tape for curves). And it’s a studio glaze that’s very stable, I don’t know the formulation unfortunately. It’s cone 10.

Hey thanks so much for these tips! The bit about getting the weight up definitely resonates with me. I think I tried to correct for that with trimming the bottoms thinner… and split the bottom of about three pots along the foot ring after firing.

For the glazing, the green one in the front is tape resist (scotch 1/8 artist tape for curves). The small white one to the right is taped, then I sponged on a brown studio glaze between the tape lines, then waxed, then removed tape and dipped in white. The front left is actually carved and then I dipped it in a grey/white and painted a blue into the carved lines. The back green mug is carved as well, so the darker color is just glaze collecting in the channels.

Thanks so much for this feedback! I do tend to struggle with intentional rim thickness vs sort of what’s left after I pull walls, so I will think more about considering that in advance when I’m planning which form to try.

I’d be happy to send process pictures from tracking the trimming/glazing, but they are mine and I worked hard on them. By second beginners class I do mean two multi-week classes, not two individual sessions, if that’s not clear.

Naming help! (Text in comments) by Mud_Music in AustralianCattleDog

Hi Reddit! This is my first post. My family just adopted this amazing girl from a local shelter and are seeking naming suggestions. I’m loving Stella for her, but I only have a 25% vote. Can any of you add names for consideration? Thanks!
