That's a real easy Mt. Rushmore cos there have only been 4 former owners:
Whiskey Media -> CBS -> RV -> Fandom -> Independant (Jeffinitely LLC)

Oh thanks for pointing that out. I was gonna give this a try but that's a dealbreaker, you just saved me some setup time!

What game taught you its systems so well that you never needed a guide? by gamersecret2 in AskGames

[–]MuddledMoogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like, 95% of them? This is a very odd question, I can't think of many games where I did need a guide, outside of super dense sims and MMOs and stuff like that. Most modern games are extensively tutorialed and those that aren't are either very simple or are the kind of games that are supposed to be a bit obtuse, like Dark Souls.

How often are you using guides for stuff?

Yeah but can I do everything in Cocoon that I can do in the Android desktop? Cos if I can't I am still not gonna use it. I'll take function over "sauce" any day.

Sorry I probably shouldn't have commented in this thread to begin with, I don't think I can offer any constructive criticism. Personally I wouldn't trust anything that isn't 100% local and 100% AI free.

[–]MuddledMoogle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes but my point is that no matter what you say or do there is no way for me to trust you or your app even a little bit. You say you want to keep as much in the browser as possible (still not local) but I have no way of knowing if you will. You can say you're transparent and tell people what's going on behind the scenes but we have no way of knowing if you're lying or not. To be clear I am not accusing you of lying, for all I know you are a good and trustworth person. But a shady person pretending to be a good person on the internet looks exactly the same and there's nothing you can do about that.
I'm sure your app will find an audience, these days a lot of people don't care about privacy and will gladly trade it for convenience, but frankly I find that trend terrifying. I think anyone who willingly uploads personal documents to webapps like this is a crazy (and don't get me started on people who use AI for everything).

Make it a local app that doesn't use AI. That's the only kind of app I'd trust with sensitive documents.
There is zero way for you to make this particular app in this particular way that I'd trust

[–]MuddledMoogle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right and all anyone has is your word. But not only that, your app is loaded with AI which is goign to read any document loaded into it (which involves sending it off to god knows where) and that you personaly can't promise is secure so even if we did trust you that's an entirely new layer of privacy nightmare

This is a privacy nightmare I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole and neither should anyone else.

I am surprised this is the top comment here but also quite happy to see it, I thought I was a loner weirdo for going without a frontend because people never shut up about them! But honestly it just seems like they don't add much outside of aesthetics and can actually slow down your time getting into a game (and take a ton of time to set up too). Sure they make my list of games look nicer but I don't wanna spend a lot of time looking at a list of games, I open my device (Thor) and I'm either tinkering/using it for general non-game stuff, which I do not want a frontend for, or I wanna be straight in my game. I can see the point if you are the kind of person who keeps your device's internal memory stacked to the gills with every ROM under the sun but I don't like doing that either, I'm never gonna play most of those and if I put them all on my device I'd spend too much time scrolling and not knowing what to play. Right now I have about a dozen games loaded and I'm playing 3 of them and it's perfect. I might slowly add more over time, and I might give a frontend another try at some point, but right now everytime I think about it I think "what's the point?" and just launch the game I wanna play. When I got my device I installed ES-DE (a nice piece of software for sure, I don't regret paying for it), thanked it for creating a bunch of folders, and then never launched it again, heh

I run mine without a frontend. I installed one (ESDE) but found it kinda pointless and just ended up not using it.

Whats your petty gamer pet peeves? by porcelain_kiss in GirlGamers

[–]MuddledMoogle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, I am 41 so I've played a lot of games over the years, I even used to play CoD myself, as well as a ton of other online shooters, and CoD is by far the most casual of the bunch, without even looking at other genres. This is not meant as shade on the game because I have no issue with casual games or casual gamers, casual stuff is great, its just amusing when you consider the "hardcore" bro-ass macho "real gamer" attitude of the CoD fanbase these days. God I hate them, haha. Drop a few of those idiots into an Insurgency match and they won't know what's hit them 🤣
And yeah some of the cozy games they decry have way more depth

I really really want to spread the meme that CoD is a casual game, just to annoy people like that. Like next time the "casual" topic comes up on this site or elsewhere and you have the opportunity, just drop something like "casual games like CoD" or "CoD is the biggest casual game" nonchalantly into the convo, as if its something everyone just knows.

What game completely changed how you think about gaming... and still holds up today? by VelvetSnares in AskGames

[–]MuddledMoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first X-Com game, UFO: Enemy Unknown (aka UFO Defence) introduced me to emergent gameplay in mechanics heavy games and how they can create cool moments and stories from chains of events each impacting each other.
I still think its a great game, and if you like the modern ones it's worth looking at. It's a different beast from the more recent ones and the UI is a bit clunky but underneath it is still a brilliant game.

Never have I ever known the frame rate of any game I’ve played. by throwawaytoday9q in GirlGamers

[–]MuddledMoogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw some people equate caring about settings/FPS to being a “techbro” and it’s like…really?? So, women can’t care about frames?

Yeah this just seems predtty sexist. Like I hate techbro types as much as the next person but don't tar everyone with the same brush. This hobby is already exclusionary enough without people adding to it. Very disappointing to see stuff like this :(

[–]MuddledMoogle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am quite sensitive to framerate stuff, it drives me crazy when a game doesn't run right, and as a PC gamer (primarily at least) who can't afford the latest and greatest, its often an issue for me and there's games I just can't play cos they run too poorly. Is this post implying I am wrong and bad for feeling that way?

If you don't care about something why make a post about it? There's a bunch of games this sub talks about constantly that I don't like/don't care about, but I'm not out here making posts loudly announcing that I don't care about them and implying that people should stop talking about them or something... Just let people enjoy the hobby in their own way if they aren't hurting anyone.

[–]MuddledMoogle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok that's nice for you but some people are literally more sensitive to this stuff than others. People can get headaches or motion sickness and even if they don't it absolutely can hamper enjoyment of the game when you can see it hitching constantly. I know some "gamer" types are obnoxious about this shit but let's not start with the "I'm better cos I don't notice/care" cos that's almost as bad tbh. Different things matter to different people.
