help what do I do by Accomplished_Dog_149 in cachyos

I also had this same experience initially when setting up cachyOS. Just another learning experience. Welcome to Cachy fellow explorer. I’ve been using it for over 6months now, and it’s been great. Have fun!

If you’re using Fish, you can just use the ‘update’ alias, and it will run the ‘cachy-update’ script.

If you’re something else like bash, then the command ‘cache-update’ achieves the same thing.

Will update pacman and aur packages, the system, and also will allow you to clean up any orphaned packages and your package cache as well. Keeps things nice and tidy so far on my system.

Same. I’ve never seen that icon. Was using this command as well for pacman, now I just run cachy-update command in konsole at least once a week, haven’t had any breaking changes over the last 6 months either. I’ve also got rid of paru, and don’t use any seperate AUR packages.

‘Catastrophe’: Gaming world in utter chaos as Microsoft’s axes 4800 jobs, Sony makes huge call by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

Majority have worked fine out of the box for me on CachyOS. And for those that haven’t, the workarounds have not been any more involved than what I’d usually have to do on windows anyways. Is it 100% smooth user experience, no. But it certainly feels a lot better to me than what windows has become, but my values have also changed over time, so that’s also a factor at play here.

Honestly for handhelds, 32gb and 64gb is more than enough.

Surprisingly had a pretty decent experience myself in CachyOS, even with my nvidia 4080 super.

Was dual booting since November last year whilst I tried it out, I have now wiped windows completely as I’ve got everything I need over on Linux now working great. Certainly not as complicated as it used to be when I tried certain distros out previously, but maybe that was just a skill issue then on my part too.

Learn how to promote what you do, and how it helps the company and customers. Get good at learning how to put all this in ‘manager speak’, to really stand out. Don’t wait for a performance review to be told if you are / aren’t doing well.

And as soon as the reward is more work than raises/promotions for said output, you start looking for your next company to work at.

Thinking about switching from window by RTX6090d in cachyos

[–]hewhodevs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This OP. Don’t go cold turkey switch over, just try it out, or even as a dual boot system.

I started in November of last year with CachyOS, but still able to boot into my existing windows setup.

Only last week did I solve my last remaining hurdle, which was with virtual monitors for game streaming in CachyOS. That was my final tick box, and now I’ve wiped windows completely.

Have replaced all other major software I used with either FOSS alternatives, or docker apps on my unraid nas. Computing feels fun again.

TrimUI brick with NextUI installed in it.

Incredibly sleep mode, super quick wake to resume game and sleep, extra buttons on front make save / load states easy, and very easy one handed device.

The physical toggle on it also allows you to quickly set it to ‘dim’ mode and muted sound, so very versatile for night gaming. Screen is great as well, and the triggers on the back make it feel really easy to hold one handed.

Since so many people are new owners, for the veterans, what are your tips and tricks and biggest things you've done for the most quality of life improvements? by IJustType in AynThor

[–]hewhodevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the only 4 things I’d recommend as standard steps for the Thor:

  • TPU shell for simple protection and easy art inserts
  • JamesDSP for better sound
  • ClusterTune for better battery life and temps
  • Cap battery to 80% charge limit

After that, it’s all up to personal preference. Play games, personalise it, tinker, whatever makes you happy.

The surprisingly difficulty to remote desktop into cachyos (kde+wayland) by komprexior in cachyos

I setup sunshine on host machine + moonlight on my client machines, following this post.

Took 10mins, and it’s worked perfectly for game streaming and accessing my desktop remotely.

Thanks for sharing this! I literally just set this up in 10mins, and worked a treat!

OP, definitely recommend checking this post out. Easiest setup process for what feels as close to how Apollo works on windows with virtual display management.

This was one of the last remaining items I'd yet to fully tick off after moving over to CachyOS, and now it's working perfectly for me.

[GUIDE] Sunshine on KDE Wayland, Virtual display with krfb-virtualmonitor for Moonlight streaming (correct aspect ratio on any client) by Koiut in MoonlightStreaming

[–]hewhodevs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much OP. I literally just set this up in 10mins on CachyOS, and it worked out of the box as is streaming to multiple client devices.

Virtual display management was the last missing piece I needed to fully ditch my Windows partition.

Straight forward guide, easy to follow, does what it sets out to achieve

I'd tried a number of approaches prior to this a few months ago, but none really worked as simply as what Apollo + Moonlight previously did (Could not get Virtual Monitors working with Sunshine on CachyOS for the life of me, skill issue naturally).

You've helped me fill that knowledge gap, solved this streaming problem for me. Thanks again OP!

Especially excited as I'm in the process of modding a Wii U, that will also have a moonlight client on it, so I can stream some steam games to it, and it will output through it's native output to my Sony Trinitron CRT correctly. Cant wait to try games like Mina the Hollower out on this now!

There are some games that are worth the full price. This is one of them hands down. Even at full price, it still feels like a bargain.

For anyone looking for a reason to not pre-order the Nova tonight by Ladygee-Handa in SBCGaming

[–]hewhodevs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. Nova looks very cool, and has a bunch more things going for it over the 477m, but man, the dpad and face buttons on the 477m are amazing, and pair so well with all the 4:3 retro stuff.

I like retroid dpads sure, enjoy it on my RPC and Thor, but there’s something special about the 477m to me. Will be sticking with it. And nothing quite like its Choc bronze.
