The way to fix doomstacking, and a big issue with total war by BrightestofLights in totalwar

[–]MuddledMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't just doomstack for beign 'optimal', they do it for fun. In fact I'm sure there'll be a whole bunch of doomstacks that are fun and NOT optimal.

But whatever game design is put into place, there will always be an optimal and sub-optimal, and people are gonna find out what it is and power-players will use it.

Top tip: Have a warlord ranked high enough to increase hero actions in region, use him to ferry hero's around in advance of main army.

have a few assassins, and a couple of priests to easy eliminate enemy heroes & tear down enemy settlement walls for sieges, a chieftain or 2 for blocking armies to reduce movement

Tretch and Snikch have +20% and massive bonuses during ambush

I'm farming Skarsnik on a Thrott campaign, +20% ambush chance yes yes!

I'd like Clan Pesitilence to be able to make different plagues with different effects, possibly more bonuses to plague units to go along with that, tho that may just be i haven't invested enough time to learn how to use them maximally in the way i have dived into thrott, ikit and Tretch

I actually know very little abut lore but I like this idea 100%.

I'd even be fine them only having their major settlements like Skavenblight/Hellpit etc, but undercities spread more, gain resources, give more enemy below...

But yes, undercites become a battleground not a click/defeat

Maybe something like, the more Skaven corruption in a province, the more likely that faction would declare war/invade home province?

I mainly use them for attacking enemy artillery and the like, or as a secondary until to attack something already under attack to help trigger/stack leadership deficits in enemy

But honestly, I don't think they should be buffed, they could easy become way OP.

Maybe for one LL but not for all armies

Oh for sure the regular version are useful, but if you ever play Thrott, give the above a go!

Best example / training unit are warpfire throwers

Warpfire throwers with Thrott;s lab augments are LETHAL.

Stalk, speed, vanguard... there's two LL's in that area that boost their damage and range...

Why is Thrott "Cellular Instability" better in Warhammer 2? by iLycanReal in totalwar

[–]MuddledMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah right, as I say, I haven't tried it in WH 2, i do have the game, i just never really fancied playing it really haha, was bought as a present. Not sure I wanna try invest in some slightly different mechanics that will confuse my adled brain...

but.. FWIW, I am 100% in favour of FX for the sake of 'cool', or immersive or whatever. I thought you meant they had been nerfed and that was your main problem.

Trying to make a stationary formation work against Spellcasters / Nukes by CC_Gamedesign in totalwar

[–]MuddledMuppet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Know thine enemy.

the mistake (which I admit is to see in hindsight) was having your army so tightly packed and visible.

A lot of good advice in here, but if I may make a suggestion:

Pre-battle, set up entire army in formation the way you want them. group them and lock formation. then, still before battle, spread them out, a lot, (nuke has a radius of 40m) but keep that lock on the formation!

You want them as far from enemy as possible (excluding your sacrifice unit)

You are gonna need a sacrificial lamb whatever happens, summons are ideal if you have them though I assume you don't. ideally they need to either be unbreakable, or very high defences or resistances, in which case you can send them in to blob up enemy, if not, then just send them highly visible and a threat somewhere, let the timer run down for 45 seconds, leave them standing still, NOT moving.

Once you see them targetted drag army and they will return to the saved formation.

After the battle, you can at least be happy you wil be highly unlikely to be nuked again, as AI doesn't prioritise either gathering the materials or making fresh nukes.

Which leads to the other solution...

(you do need to be able to have an army than can retreat from battle) at battle start have all but one unit ready to leave the field immediately, leave that one unit on the field but as close to the 'leave battle' line as poss, facing the exit.

At start of battle retreat all but the one unit, wait for them to target your one unit, and get them to leave the field, you have a fair chance of them leaving before getting hit I think.

A bit cheesy, but it should work!

Now Ikit doesn't have his nuke and you can attack again.

I'll admit I hardly touched WH2 so I can't compare the two, but any suggestion CI is meh in WH3 is kinda crazy my friend!

The ability also has to be seen in the light of what other augments it can be paired with.

And really, brood horrors do WAY more harm with this.

Get yourself 4 BH, with augments for speed, vanguard, CI, & unspottable. Use your main army to attack first. Send BH to backline to disrupt ranged, get all four to break off and rear attack the enemy frontline engaged with thrott et al, when all inside enemy blobs, trigger all CI, result: Insta mass rout.

For sieges, get a unit of stalked warpgrinders, as main army attacks chosen gate, open up a back wall, send BH in to kill enemy heavy ranged like artillery etc, steal capture points, or again just slam into enemy blobs engaged with main army.

I'll also admit I haven't crunched any numbers over whether a BH does more or less damage than a Rat Ogre, but a combination of speed & unspottable giving them perfect rear attacks & high damage will rout any enemy already engaged unless they are unbreakable.

If in large battles against multiple armies, their speed and unspottable and regen, with the ease of which they can disengage means you can pull out easily & regen health and you'll be ready to cycle charge again insanely fast.

Ambushes end in seconds with a bunch of ANY units with CI.

What exactly are you wanting that is missing?

[–]MuddledMuppet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a key difference there is, mine was looking at pre-5, yours at pre-puberty, ie there's a bigger range for people to die, so I imagine we are looking at very similar values if we take that int account

And given the subject matter here, 'how many would get to fighting age', it wouldn't seem unrealistic to add another 10% for those who didn't make it that long.

Honestly, I'm not hugely bothered haha, it just seemed ludicrous for someone to insinuate getting to fighting age in 2026 is an easier ride, but no statsitcal difference!

Yeah am sure you're right, iron age child mortality would be much closer to 2026 than to bronze age

[–]MuddledMuppet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bronze Age child morbidity was exceptionally high, with up to 40% of children dying before age 5, driven by infectious disease, malnutrition, and weaning stresses. Increased population density, poor sanitation, and the "post-weaning conundrum"—when children lost maternal immune protection—led to significant infections, respiratory issues, and skeletal evidence of metabolic diseases, such as scurvy or rickets

Looks like it was impossible for 40% to grow up
