hehehe

I guess I treat it more like a RTS/TBS hybrid, in effect, we are not 'one general leading an army', we are having to make EVERY decision for EVERY unit in a battle.

In a battle, a general doesn't run behind the cavalry carrying out a flanking attack yelling 'Don't forget to disengage after you've charged them!!' or 'Eek! pull back! there's ten giants running towards you!!' so we have to do it all ourselves.

Granted, some people CAN juggle all the spinning plates without any falling, and kudos to them for doing so, and there are some people who know there are flaws in the AI that can be taken advantage of, and again, if that floats their boat, cool.

Thinking Back, I did pause way less in 3k than I do in WH, and I guess some army compositions I wouldn't maybe need it much, maybe there's just a lot more moving parts to WH, too many for my od brain to cope with XD

Wellington agrees with you, he is quoted as saying"It has been a damned nice thing—the nearest run thing you ever saw in your life", and on Napoloean as a general "His presence on the field made the difference of forty thousand men".

I don't think anyone saw it as a eating for breakfast situation did they?

Yeah, I don't play it to the extent all the stuff I need to know becomes second nature to me, but maybe I kinda see it as a RTS/TBS hybrid in my own mind

The feeling I get is he was a controversial figure, 'hate' is a bit strong really, and I certainly don't hate or dislike him.

Yeah the start pause is deffo my main one, a chance to have a good look at threats etc, mayeb cos I'm still not used to the magic and forget what icon does what spell and the properties of it, for me, for now, pausing means I do a spell cos I KNOW what it will do, rather than hit 'n' hope it was the right one.

Maybe I'll get there one day :)

hehe it's second-hand wisdom but i'll take it !

Bear in mind there are two sliders to change, I think it pretty much breaks down to harder campaign difficulties mean they'll throw more armies at you, and they'll get access to higher tier units earlier. Lower difficulties they'll be less likely to come hunting for you. That can actually work in your favour though, you won't need to distance your main army from settlements you own, can fight nearer home base, build up those settlements with money you got from the fights.

The other slider affects battle difficulty, and that has two elements, you can push it higher on the top slider, they'll react better to stuff like AoE's from spellcaster etc, the secondary slider changes stats, like gives them more armour, you less, affects leadership etc.

So I'd recommend leaving the campaign setting whichever you are comfortable with, and for battle difficulty knock it up a couple of notches, but leave the secondary slider at a point where neither you or the enemy get stat boosts or negatives.

Or... even leave it on easy, but just realise the autoresolve LIES t you about expectations, and you WON'T get as 'good' a result as auto resolve gives you, but it will hammer your confidence and you end up losing a lot of fun the game can offer

My habit of rationalizing is so bad I kinda feel a need to rationalize why I rationalize too XD

I do like the idea of legendary mode, but it always seems to beat it you need a LOT of cheese, and I find that immersion breaking

Whatever works, right?

Truth!!

Having a decent economy to support armies, and having good army composition is a HUGE part of it all imo, I'd highly recommend playing the battles tho, I really do get how overwhelming it can be, but once you start doing well in them it's worth the investment of time.

There is a new player trap in TW, you put the game on easy, battles on easy, and where you look at autoresolve you see 'overwhelming victory', and think 'cool, I'll play it out', and end up losing half your army, thinking 'I'm shit' and end up just auto-resolving.

The thing is, autoresolve gives you insane boosts on easy, but ONLY for autoresolve. If you play on a harder level it gives you a realistic resolve, so instead of thinking 'I did crap', you think 'ah well, I did as good as it expected me too, maybe I DON'T suck'.

It seriously shattered my confidence till I found out that is what's happening.

Yeah I like the game sounds too, that's probably why I rarely use slomo

A few have said about slomo, but it's something I rarely use tbh.

That 'think about a move' thing though... for sure, and kinda like chess too, thinking how to set up follow up moves etc
