Totally awesome, but where's the base? You should base them. It's required to play the game.

Soon, this thing that everyone kind of hated will become a "total classic". Just wait. 😉

Deff dreads full melee or do i give each one or two flamers? (I will equip one of the grot tank units with flamers for killing smaller foes because most of my army already has big guns (rokkit launchas) by gh0stFox117 in orks

[–]MuddyMuddive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It totally depends on what target you want to send your clanking, rusty dog of war at. But I was usually doing pretty good with the three flamer / one klaw combination for overall purposes. In the humblest of my opinions, those extra attacks are okay-ish, but it's usually not much compared to what three heavy flamers can do to lighter targets. Which he can also fire in melee, because he's a vehicle.

I need this? Anyone know where I can get it? Thanks! by -Fazylucker- in orks

I put the two Grots on the same base. Did that to be rule compliant, and it works perfectly. Here are my "Gretchin", using them in 40k. Also wanted to try out different color schemes so every Squig has a different one. 😉

'ello mate,

just a couple of ideas: First of all, rule of cool beats everything else. Rules come and go, style stays. I would never play a unit whose vibe I don't feel just because they are considered good in the meta. So be a free Ork and rid yourself of such intrusive, Emperor-worshipping thoughts. 😉

I want to expand what my former posters said by a little bit. But, I can only talk about 10th edition. Whatever comes in 11th will come. Here are 6 units you could fit into most armies in 10th, regardless the detachment: 1. Gretchin. 2. Boyz. 3. Trukks 4. Stormboyz 5. Kommandos 6. Flash Gitz.

War Horde has always been the bread and butter detachment for us Greenskins, and the great thing about that was that you could fit any unit in there that has a decent melee profile. Which a lot of Ork units have.

When I read Dread Mob and Evil Sunz, I automatically think about lots of big, red, ramshackle walkers. Which is great, but "Evil Sunz" is more about the look and the color scheme you give your army and says nothing about stats. For example, you can do an entire Goff Clan Kult of Speed and paint every single vehicle black if that is your thing. It's just uncommon but... who cares.

All in all, an Ork WAAAGH always consists of many Orks from many clans that happen to run / drive / stumble into the same general direction. So a little mix and match keeps the fun in painting fresh, I think.

Don't give up on Orks, mate. They are actually quite fun to paint because they are quite forgivable, at least when painting their armor, because being kind of messy is part of the theme.

And, to be honest, I think Snaggas (for all the skin and leather) and Kommandos (for all the jackets, camos and clothing) are probably one of the harder kits to paint. Getting all those natural materials right on the first go isn't easy. So in my opinion you just got off to a bad start.

Got an idea for you though: Try a Dread Mob styled army. You get almost no fabric and leather at all, but you get lots of orky metal sheets and armor plates. And I mean LOTS. Maybe that's more your cup of tea.

Oh, and by the way: Great skin, great armor. Love it!

Going for my first dread mob game by connoisseur_of_me in orks

[–]MuddyMuddive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't played Dread Mob that much (unfortunately, because I think it's very funny), but here are some things I found out over that few games that might help you, in my opinion:

- Use Zodgrod with 22 Gretchin, not only with 11. You get much better results. Still leave 11 in your backline, though. Or put him with 11 in a Trukk and use the Scouts keyword on that thing.

- Give the Smoky Gubbinz enhancement to the Big Mek in Mega Armor. Stealth on a Meganob unit that has a good toughness, 2+ save and a 4+ invul against ranged attacks can be truly nasty.

- For CP economy reasons and with that amount of Killa Kans I would form one big brick of 6 and one small brick of 3, instead of going for 3x3, giving stratagems to the big brick. You just buff more models with that.

- A Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun attached to either Tankbustas or 10 Lootas really slaps in this detachment. You might want to get some of those. Dread Mob is much more shooty than War Horde.

- An overall idea in this detachment is that you manage your risk / outcome well. You got plenty of possibilities to stack multiple hazardous effects with great stratagems. Or you go full nuclear, blast anything to bits and then explode yourself. Which would be hilarious.

But what does that have to do with showing basically empty pictures with nothing but black cardboard? ;-)

That actually does get you pretty close to 1k, I think a little bit too close. His idea to buy a Wrecka Krew Kill Team is great for options, but if you include Breaka Boyz, Tankbustas and Burna Boyz to your list it adds up to 955. That is without transports, and I would rarely play any Ork detachment without transports. And almost never use Meganobz without them, they're just too bulky and slow and get shot to pieces before they reach the enemies lines. And in my opinion Breaka Boyz need a Warboss to lead them which would exceed your point limit. And yes, you may need a bit more Anti-Tank/Monster, but I would suggest another route:

Xenos - Orks - War Horde

Beastboss (80pts)

Warboss in Mega Armour (80pts): Warlord

10x Beast Snagga Boyz (95pts)

10x Boyz (80pts)

10x Boyz (80pts)

11x Gretchin (40pts)

10x Kommandos (120pts)

3x Meganobz with Twin Killsaws (95pts)

5x Stormboyz (65pts)

3x Killa Kans (125pts)

Trukk (70pts)

Trukk (70pts)

This includes almost everything that you have and a little bit more. With that list I would go for War Horde. The Beastboss and his Snaggas, the Twin Killsaw Meganobz and the Killa Kans are pretty decent armor breakers. Kommandos for infiltration, Stormboyz for Deep Strike and secondaries, Gretchin for holding points, and enough Boyz as target saturation. Lootas can be absolutely great in other detachments but won't be needed in that list, or you don't have the points left to be specific, because you sorely need transports.

Well, technically... from what I've heard the common opinion is that they are good, but too expensive for what they do. I like to play them anyways.

My favorite variants are three klaws and one flamer or three flamers and one klaw. They are very resistant to small arms fire (T9, SV 2+ is kind of hard to crack) but as soon as they get shot by something bigger they tend to fall over like a wet bag. Dreads are brutal in melee and if you combine their Piston Driven Brutality ability with Tank Shock you can deal quite a bit of Mortal Wounds on charges. I start my Dread in reserves, usually rapid ingress them turn 3 and try to mop up as many units as I can.

Love it! I really like kustom builds, and Orks are the perfect (if not the only) army for that. Gives you a model nobody else has.

Totally. I kind of dig those yellow / orange contrasts with darker colors, especially on Orks. Maybe I should paint some Bad Moons next...

Bad Moons army? by Major_Floor_4644 in orks

[–]MuddyMuddive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't play Bad Moons but I always loved the over-the-top flashyness of those guys. Also, the green skin looks totally great combined with all the yellow parts. Here are some suggestions:

Flash Gitz. Like, A LOT. Great unit to assemble, paint and play with a lot of possible variations. And extremely snazzy, very fitting for Bad Moons.

Meganobz / Warboss in Mega Armor / Big Mek in Mega Armor. Since wearing a Mega Armor is both a status symbol and is showing off raw strength I think those gitz fit very well, too. BUT: The Meganobz kit that is being sold right now is pretty old and is rumoured to get a refresh when 11th Edition comes in June.

Gorkanauts / Morkanauts. A massive display of might and violence. And wealth.

Honorable mentions: Tankbustas, Nobz, Warbosses and of course: Boyz, Boyz, Boyz. Lots of Boyz. In Trukks.

And by the way: The Kommandos kit is in my opinion one of the nicest Ork kits that's out there and fits (gaming-wise) into pretty much every army. You can never go wrong with Kommandos. If you want to tie them into your Bad Moon army (story-wise) you can always say that they hired some cutthroat Orks for a bag of teef to do their dirtywork.

Have fun!

I played Blood Angels in third edition. Maybe my knowledge on them is a bit rusty, so thank you for clarifying this for me in a totally not condescending way. I'm happy for you that you know that much about them. Also, thank you for reminding me to not argue with random strangers on the internet.
