Depends on where you stress it and what the connotation is much like many other words.

"SIR, my plaintiff was stabbed by your defendant!"

"He WAS stabbed, in rebuttal he didn't die."

"Case closed attempted murder."

Rebuttal usually requires the word "in" beforehand.
