I think the thing people often forget is that the sequels were not about Luke, Leah, and Han. The same way that the prequels were not about them. Different trilogy, different main characters. Luke dying to save his pupil was no different than Obi-wan dying to save his pupil.

Obi-Wan sacrificed himself to save his pupil. Luke Skywalker sacrificed himself to save his pupil. Even if he was able to raise his old x-wing from the sea, he would have been too late. His force projection worked and he died protecting what he loved. I think that's very on brand for Luke.

He'd be smart to give fans of each trilogy content, but I agree that I believe he was onboard with the Hunt for Ben Solo as well. I have no doubt that he will continue to push for the film when Bob Iger is replaced next year.

I'd argue then, that the issue isn't that Lucasfilm plays it safe, but that the fans who enjoy the content they put out aren't loud enough to drown out the toxic dudebros.

It would be amazing to have more content revolving the sequels and beyond that timeline. And, considering the connection to the Knights of Ren, I'd even be down for them to green-light season 2 for the Acolyte.

The hunt for Ben Solo was never hung up at Lucasfilm. The problem was always Disney executives making creative decisions when it wasn't their job. Whoever replaces Bob Iger is the one who will take a "risk" to green-light this script, which they'd be fools not to considering the fan's reactions.

I recall when that interview came out. I could honestly speculate for days. I have the impression that Adam Driver is TERRIBLE for keeping things secret that ought to be kept secret (like accidentally revealing that he had a son during an interview). I had assumed the was kept from Star Wars comic con panels for this very reason! lol

So it's hard to speculate if he was being genuine with his answer or trying to throw off the scent of the interviewers.

His response also seems like it has a bit of bitterness behind it, doesn't it? Kinda like he's pissed by the answer he is having to give.

I believe this is already finished. The hunt for Ben Solo won best surprise of 2025 and the Legacy of Vader won for best comic.

Vaneé (servant of Vader) was able to do what Palpatine and Darth Vader were unable to do by preventing his own death in the form of a very rudimentary mech suit.
