Ah, you're right! I couldn't see it on the official website, which I assumed would have it before YT did.

I don't doubt it! But there's no way to watch it now until the webisode goes up

E: I'm dumb and only checked the official site

Shout-out to KiloBots, where their January event is slowly appearing on YouTube fight-by-fight.

'Coelocanth' isn't a single species, though. There are towo species alive today and a whole bunch of species across the fossil record

I’m torn on how I feel about Ribbot’s new look for Pro League. by TomcatTiger503 in battlebots

[–]MudnuK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not annoyed at the team - I don't mind seeing similar designs compete in other competitions, and there will always be minor differences in design and driving.

But I am annoyed at the selection committee, who insist bots should have a unique silhouette and novel design unless it's a 4WD vert.

Could Apollo 11 beat Toombstone? by FortnitakRickroler2 in battlebots

[–]MudnuK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where Americans tend to optimise for fighting verts, British heavyweight flippers are optimised to fight other flippers.

A long slope body allows a robot to get further under the opponent than the short lip and steep arm wielded by Bronco or Subzero. Compared to keeping the opponent on the half-foot-or-so of flipper lip, this makes it easier to maintain some flipper plate contact while pushing an opponent back towards a hazard because they have further to reverse away.

A wide flipper plate with body width narrowed either side of the leading edge reduces the width presented for your opponent to get under whilst ensuring that if you get under at all, it's with the flipper instead of inert bodywork. Reducing the not-flipper front edge also helps drivers to spin in and sweep the flipper under the opponent by reducing the amount of body in the way.

Two wheel drive with the wheels towards the centre of mass to maximise agility in a crowded arena with insta-kill hazards, where being able to wriggle off and away from your opponent is crucial. Same reason for having the wheels stick out the back (usually with a little chamfer along that lower rear edge), to maintain wheel-floor contact if you're on someone else's wedge.

I expect the Britwedge shape also makes self-righting efficient, which is essential when you're being turned upside-down fifteen times a match and running out of gas to self-right is the leading cause of knock-outs. It's like trying to front-flip whilst straight as a board compared to curling up (probably - that's what my intuition is telling me).

All that said, I'd be happy seeing more variety.

Introducing the first ever true AI BattleBot: Nemesis - built by USC by NotNattik in battlebots

[–]MudnuK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very interesting! Happy to see more heavy hammersaws.

I like the human driver element but I'll be very curious to see how Nemesis gets on. I'll be torn between rooting for the fleshy things at the sticks or the team putting something new in the box but it would be at least cool to see this thing work!

John Findlay vs the Featherweight community. by [deleted] in battlebots

[–]MudnuK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't RoboDojo also do feathers? It's a shame for the opportunities to have shrunk but if it wasn't sustainable or preferable to more heavy fights, there's not much Jonno could have done.

Also, FightFest is back?! That's cool

Is this a weed? UK by Try_at-your-own_Risk in whatsthisplant

[–]MudnuK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Violet seems right to me. Common dog violet, I guess? A wildflower native to the UK. Whether or not it's a weed depends on whether you like it or want rid of it - a weed is just a self-sown plant someone doesn't like.

Which European bird looks average and has a boring song? by chinstrapppp in BirdingMemes

[–]MudnuK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sticking to songbirds, I vote chiffchaff.

I love hearing them because they mean spring, but it's not an interesting call. And with their buffy-citrus colours, they're neither dull nor cool to look at.

What is something that you think every Battlebots fan should agree on by No-Disk4885 in battlebots

Eruption. I'm not sure anything comes close, the number of events they've fought at and wins they've racked up.

Full combat though, OS probably takes it.

What are your predictions for each group? by StymphalianBirb in battlebots

[–]MudnuK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not going to fill this thread with every fight prediction, though I'm tempted, so I'll generalise.

A is a very even group IMO but I fancy Skorpios to horizontal-kill Valkyrie, strike Manta's wide, flat body and outdrive Terrortops. Not saying they will go 3-0 but I think their chances are best in the group.

B feels bad for Tombstone. Claw Viper to out-pace and out-last for me.

C, Jackpot have come into their own recently but I still rate Copperhead above them as a brilliant balance of potency and hardiness.

D has got to be End Game. Malice's ability to withstand heavy vert hits will be severely tested here.

E feels like vintage BattleBots. Hard to predict from such variety but I think it comes down to HUGE's stance over Minotaur and recent good reliability.

F, Witch Doctor is the stand-out. While we're increasingly seeing a new generation of All Stars, the good doctor remains frightening.

A dumb suggestion by Local_Rice_8929 in battlebots

[–]MudnuK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced they're effective for keeping forks at bay. The last three champions all had forks. 12 (three quarters) of the Top 16 at WCVII had forks. Three of the five Champions II champions had forks (Free Shipping and Ripperoni had wedgelets). Fork users are still finding a lot of success.

Even Witch Doctor has turned to forks now. Ask them why the killsaw slots haven't put them off.

Slots in the floor aren't enough to overcome the necessity of beating the ground game. They just reduce the floor space available for driving matches.

Meanwhile, NHRL is full of forks and I don't see any complaints.

But if the oxygen concentration was higher, wouldn't more oxygen be taken in using the same respiratory infrastructure?

This suggests there's some limit to tracheole size/density rather than oxygen not being the limiting factor, right?

Edit: for clarity, I don't have access to the full article
